Hi everyone,

This is tragic and its concerning me

My grandma opened the balcony slide door while i was upstairs studying, my kitten ran outside into the garden where other BIG stray cats sometimes hang out..

I heard cat's screaming and meowing for help, i thought its just stray cats fighting outside but then i decided to check on my kitty if shes ok and finally i figured out shes missing

I saw the door open so i rushed to the door and called for her name and again i heard LOUD meows, suddenly she came from the garden running inside and i saw one BIG HUGE cat, looked like a male to me standing outside

She had no bruises or marks on her..but she was covered in mud, scared and had poop covering her bottoms..im afraid she got raped..my mom said she might have seen blood on her bottom but shes not sure.

we washed her and shes fine again

But im just a bit concerned..how to know if my cat really have been penetrated? And can they get pregnant at age of 4 months?

Thnkx

I hope i get fast replies on this

Poor kitty!

Yes a kitten can get pregnant at four months--and at that young age, the kitten can have a lot of problems.

Your cat may 'seem' fine but cats hide pain.  Because of the trauma, I would take the kitten to the vets to get checked out--and spayed (which would by definition end any pregnancy).

You likely wouldn't see any visual signs she's been mated, mating is also a loud activity. She may have just been scared or fighting with the stray cat.

As said above get her vet checked and spayed asap, cats can get pregnant from 4 months and also don't need to be in heat as they're induced ovulators.

OMG! Now im more concerned..i thought cats hit puberty at age of 6 months

can u please tell me how spaying goes? Isnt it the removal of her ovaries? I surely dont want that because i do want her to have babies in the future.

Is there another way?

Ill be contacting the vet tmoro, however if she did get raped doesnt that mean that she would at least have marks on her body? The male has to actually grab hold of her neck hard right?

A dosis of Rescue Remedy may be useful after such shaking experience.

Although this works only if you do have it at home, or it is in a shop nearby, and it is opening hours so it is just to rush and buy. Day after the usefulness is much lesser...

Lesson for us all?  Do have some Rescue Remedy at home...

Rescue remedy is a homeopathic stress relief formula. You can put it in her water or food.

Why do you want her to have babies in the future? There are millions of kittens being killed every year because there aren't enough homes for them, it really isn't nice to bring more into that situation. Best if you can encourage people to adopt homeless kitties instead :). Not to mention that it's healthier to have her spayed young, as every time she goes into heat it increases her chances of breast cancer and pyometra (a very nasty, usually fatal uterine infection).

Your cat needs a vet check. If she was fighting, she could have been bitten by the other cats. Cat bites become abcessed very quicky.

Puberty can be from 4 months onwards, possibly slightly earlier very occasionally.

Spaying involves removing ovaries and uterus.  it's a very quick and safe operation and as mentioned below will protect your cat from pyometra and greatly reduce her risk of breast cancer.  Neutering before her first call gives the most protection from breast cancer.

You would have to shave her to find marks and I bet you aren't going to do that.

And why do you want her to have kittens?  Have you seen how many homeless cats and kittens are in your local shelters/rescues?  And a great many rescues in the US euthanase perfectly healthy cats and kittens because they don't get a home fast enough.  I mention the US as you haven't bothered to put which country you are in, and most people who do that are from the US.  Here in the UK the situation is better, except that the no-kill policy of most rescues means getting a place for a cat or kitten is very hard.

Is it much better in the UK? Someone on my dog forum said she went to volunteer at a shelter in Scotland and spent all day killing kittens, she said over 50% of KITTENS in that shelter were killed, much worse for adult cats. Most shelters in the U.S. do better than that, but perhaps she volunteered at a particularly bad UK shelter. But I've always been of of the impression that the U.S. and UK were about equal in shelter stats.

That's a very odd statement. I can't imagine why you are saying that. :dk: I certainly haven't found that to be the case.

What do you mean you will "make her have a miscarriage"? Please do not harm you cat.

It's far better to prevent kittens than kill them. The chances of finding good homes for the kittens are slim to none. She doesn't mind that she won't have kittens, in fact she'll be a lot happier.

Please don't try anything to "make her have a miscarriage". There is no safe way to do that and it could very well kill her.

Why do you think this? I think it's that the country as a whole is more "cat friendly" than the U.S. and you don't have the bitter fights between wildlife groups and TNR advocacy groups. Here, The Wildlife Society and ABC Birds are almost insanely public with their anti-cat campaigns. Yet the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds actually pays attention to the science, and doesn't vilify the cat. ( http://www.rspb.org.uk/advice/gardening/unwantedvisitors/cats/birddeclines.aspx ).

This site says the estimates are there are 2 million feral cats in the UK: http://www.celiahammond.org/index.p...er_op=view_page&PAGE_id=29&MMN_position=50:50

And the homeless cat population is on the rise, shelters are overwhelmed: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-suffolk-14480453

To the OP: Wherever you live there are homeless cats, and to breed a cat outside of a registered, pedigreed program is simply irresponsible. This site is pro-spay / neuter, and you ought to spend some time learning about the homeless and feral cat problems rather than your feelings of "No im sorry it dont sound right to kill her chances of having babies."

You say, "i will keep her kittens or sell them..a lot of people do that here." If you want more cats or kittens, please adopt them.

And in the same post you say, "i dont know, but if shes pregnant which i hope not..ill make her have a miscarriage." Well, if you want her to have kittens, why even consider something so horribly wrong?" If you don't want her to have this litter, take her to the vet and have her spayed!

You will find no support for any decision other than a vet visit and a spaying on this site. It's right in the position statement of the site:

Cat Care Policies, Guidelines and Stances

1. If you suspect that your cat may be ill, please contact your vet immediately. No online advice can replace direct veterinary intervention. You are welcome to look for advice in the health forum while waiting for that appointment, but never delay proper veterinary care waiting for Internet advice.

2. Do not provide medical advice. Discussing various options is encouraged and you may share your experience including details about what kind of medication was administered and dosage. However, do not suggest to another member that they should change anything in the course of treatment prescribed by their vet without first consulting with a qualified veterinarian.

3. This is a pro-spay-and-neuter website. Please make sure to spay and neuter your cats. Unless you are a professional breeder and your cat is part of a professional breeding program, please educate yourself to the importance of spaying and neutering by the time your cat is 4-6 months old. If you take care of a feral colony, please make sure to do so responsibly by practicing TNR (Trap, Neuter, Release) protocols within the colony. Read More Here.

I have rescued and taken life time care of loads of unwanted cats in my life.  Because of people who refuse to spay and neuter them.  It is irresponsible to allow cats to breed and create more unwanted cats.

You drive the roads here and there are dead cats all the time.  Hungry cats search for food behind stores and live in the cold.  They get sick, rabies, suffer horribly.  No one to take care of them.

How you can contribute to this situation is unbelievable to me.

I am so sorry you and your cat are going through this. SHe is certainly far too young to have kittens - it could be very dangerous for her health. But there is no safe way to remove the kittens (if she is pregnant) other than spaying, which is as you state, a removal of the ovaries. Most vets would advise this for such a young cat in this situation.

For your information, your cat has no idea what it means to have kittens, and will never miss not having them. They are quite different from humans in that respect. And it will be much better for her health in every way to get her spayed now. You talk about her being 'raped' but most cat matings are like that. They are certainly not affectionate when mating, when the cats concerned know and like each other. At mating time, hormones take over and the procedure can seem very violent to our eyes. What is wrong here is that your cat is too young to go through this and needs protection from it happening again. If you have children and want them to see birth and kittens at first hand, then it is easy to foster a pregnant cat next spring - the shelters are full of them and many will pay for the food and vet bills until the kittens are old enough to be adopted out.

Good luck

Ok I dunno y it seems like some of u r attacking me when the FIRST thing i did was rush to the vet and check on her...FIRST OF ALL SHES NOT EVEN 4 months yet..2ND she is NOT pregnant.(THANKGOD) 3rd of all i DO want her to get pregnant in the future and i want to see her kittens grow. I love my kitten and its safer to have her babies.

U said y cant i keep her babies if she was pregnant frm that stray cat..my answer is cuz shes still a baby kitten she cant have babies now.

I live in EGYPT and animal care is not that developed. If i want to adopt a kitten i have to pay loads of money plus i have to pay more money for vaccination, food, shampoo, vet visits and so on..

PLUS u ppl cant b asking me to go around the streets picking up stray cats R U KDDING ME?? Stray cats carry a lot of diseases and worms and could bring so much health issues to us since they cant be tamed like or handled like the cats u raise at home. They will simply scratch u and u will carry their disease. However, i do i see stray cats in my garden and i put food for them near the fence so they eat so at least im feeding them.

2nd of all this is life u cant save all cats and kittens. YES some will die and suffer. Maybe even many not some. But even us humans many of us r dying in africa and some r being bombed everyday in palestine and afghanistan. So plz gime a break and instead of attacking me give me help and advise. This is what this site is for. Stick to that or just dont reply.

2ND she is NOT pregnant.
Pregnancy can't be detected until 21-28 days post mating.

If you insist on her having a litter be sure to do all DNA tests for everything, as being a moggie you've no idea what she's inherited and can pass on to her kittens. The sire will also need all the same tests.

You're also going to be very stuck if she needs a c-section if veterinary care is lacking over there.

Having kittens isn't all fun and games, problems can arise and genetic defects passed on.

So... Basically what you are saying is you live in an area where there is an overabundance of stray cats, and yet you STILL want to bring more cats into the world??

Please, please... Read this: http://www.thecatsite.com/t/252080/2-kittens-becoming-1#post_3282880

If your cat has kittens you still have to pay for vet visits, vaccinations, food, shampoo, etc. Having kittens is expensive, and contributes to the problem of too many cats. We are not attacking you. Please don't think that way. But there are certain facts that you need to think about, and we are being honest in pointing them out. It's not personal.
