I think I forgot to give Goofy his 2 units of insulin this am....ugh.  Now we have to be gone all afternoon.  He gets 1 unit in the evening.

Has anyone else forgotten this?  I have one other time, and it seems to me when I called the vet, it wasn't a big deal.  Goofy has been controlled for quite a few years and has no problems.  Same dose all this time.

Wouldn't you know it would be on Christmas that this happens.

Any thoughts?

Well...seems no one was around yesterday!  Do you monitor Goofy's blood sugar?  how's it doing, level wise?  I guess you're just back on schedule and everything is AOK?

You did the right thing by not giving the dose at a later time, especially since you are not 100% sure that you missed the dose.  In a situation like this, it's best to just wait and give the next scheduled dose as you normally would.

I've heard that it's usually OK for them to miss a dose, if they're otherwise healthy and doing OK on their regular schedule. I would've not taken the chance on a double dose and just waited until his next one too.
I hope he's doing alright today.

This is pretty late to respond. I've never had a diabetic cat... yet but I had 2 Scotties that had it. Missing one shot was not a huge deal but I tested regularly for a day or 2 after. It will mess with their system a little bit and the best thing to do is to get them back on track. It's better to miss one than it is to try and second guess by giving them another one. 2 shots would be good.

Hi guys...yes he is fine.  Thanks for all your input.  I don't test every day.  In fact, he hadn't been tested in maybe a year and this past summer his numbers were the the same.  Very good.

He is a big happy boy.  If he is up on the top of the cat tree and I need to give the shot, I just say "Goofy, I need you down here".  He gets up, stretches, jumps a series of jumps to get down and drops his head over the edge of the table for the shot.  He is amazing.

Thanks again for the help.  I am sure this will happen again down the road.
