Hi All! My little baby Haley (5 mos.), who I adopted from a shelter came with one more surprise I didn't bargain for - ringworm. I took her to the vet as soon as she started pulling at her fur on the spot on her tail. My vet prescribed a topical ointment until the test came back, which it did last Friday and it was positive. I knew it would be because, of course, I have a my own little spot of confirmation on my back. Took her (and my other cat Jake) to the vet today so she could be tested for FIV prior to being prescribed Grifulvin. She tested negative. The vet, and all my research, has said that this medication should be given with a high fat meal for better absorbtion. He suggested a can of Fancy Feast and said that the can would be about the right serving, and that it also would be great if I could get her to eat the medication in the food. My problem is that she won't eat the soft food, even without the medication in it. In her short life, she's only had dry food (Science Diet) Jake loves it of course! (He has been fine, no sign of ringworm so far.) Anyone have any experience with this medication and/or have any ideas on what else I can do to get Haley to eat/take something high fat? I was thinking maybe I can give her the medication orally on it's own and then maybe give her some heavy cream or something. But I don't want to make her sick. I think it's funny that she won't eat soft food. I'll be talking with my vet tomorrow, but I always like to check with other people who have been through similar problems, sort of like getting a second opinion from someone who's been there. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Love the site too!!

Years ago, we had the same problem. Adopted 2 kittys with ringworm. Our solution, and it worked better than anything else was mixing it with Lactaid whole milk. It doesn't have the lactose which they are intolerant to, and it was a fatty substance. We usually just mixed it to make 3 cc's and gave it to them in a syringe so that we knew they were getting all of it

Thanks Sandie! That's an excellent suggestion. I'll give it a try. The vet suggested vegetable oil on her dry food. She ate a little, but wasn't to keen on it. Today she's at the vet getting spayed, so I probably won't try to give her any of the medicine with the Lactaid until tomorrow or maybe the next day. Thanks again. Carol
