Arthur was drinking more than he should and I thought it was probably diabetes.  Turns out his kidney numbers were elevated....not a lot, but enough.  I will post the numbrs when I pick him up later.

So I am looking for a dry food with egg protein and not meat protein as that is harder for seniors to process.  Arthur is with his five other seniors, so they all will be eating it.  I was also advised to feed him a scrambled egg from time to time.  Don't know if he will eat it tho.

They get wet food for breakfast, and then dry for lunch and dinner.  My other diabetic always gets wet food.  I know it is ideal  they all get wet food and they have for years.  It is just breaking the bank feeding 10 cats canned all the time.

Any suggestions on a good dry food with egg protein?

Thanks guys.

Egg protein ONLY and no meat protein? I don't know of any of those, although I can think of a few with egg protein AND meat protein.. I wouldn't want to feed any cat a meat-free food anyway. It's true that egg is a good low phosphorus protein source but I still wouldn't want to. Any way you could feed just the seniors all canned food? Once kidney issues have popped up I think any dry is an unnecessary stress on the system.

I guess I am looking for more egg than meat protein like you say.  Well, I have been feeding all 6 of them canned for quite a few years.  I go through 10 cans a day...not the big ones but the tuna sized cans. Thats 5.00 a day.   they still do get morning canned food.  I am buying the Royal Canin senior dry.  They do not have free access either.  Only put down for lunch and dinner.  But I know dry isn't the best.  Believe me, I did some soul searching before I started.

I think I will keep Arthur on all wet.  He can eat with Goofy my diabetic....it's like a hospital here!!! lol  Arthur is also a hyper t kitty but it is controlled nicely.

I agree, dry is a problem.

Thanks for your input.

If you want to replace some of the meat protein in the canned, just cook some egg whites and substitute a portion at some of his meals. :) With the kidney issue, the canned really is best. The moisture really helps.

An interesting read as re: the seniors and protein (written by a veterinarian endocrinologist specialist). Doesn't necessarily apply to cats with CRF/CKD, but seniors in general. http://endocrinevet.blogspot.no/2011/11/optimal-protein-requirements-for-older.html
