I noticed him cough at first and we went to the vet. Prescribed Marbocyl P 20 for 5 days. His cough is still present. So we moved to using Clavox for 7 days (half a tablet twice a day)

Today is the 5th day and I just heard him cough.

Help

To be on the safe side I would ask for a chest X-ray.

By the way, did your vet do any blood work?

:yeah: Were chest x-rays taken? Did the vet hear congestion?

Chest x-rays can indicate the type of cough - whether or not it's bronchial or asthmatic, or whether there may be issues with his heart (which would then require other diagnostics).

Coughing can be from a hairball or heart disease (in addition to an infection, asthma or allergies), and we depend on our vets to properly diagnose our cats.

Our Flowerbelle had a persistent cough; she also had a frequent issue with hairballs. We went to a holistic vet to get her "hairball" situation addressed. The vet listened to her, heard congestion, so took chest x-rays, and discovered signs of early asthma and bronchitis. Her heart looked slightly enlarged. Her blood pressure was taken, and it was discovered she had high blood pressure.

We then went on a diagnostics hunt to determine the cause of her high blood pressure, and if she has heart disease.

So... if your kitty is not responding to antibiotics, it would seem further diagnostics are in order to determine more precisely just what is causing the cough.

I don't know where you're located, but for the bronchitis, Flowerbelle was prescribed Doxycycline for 20 days. I don't recognize the first antibiotic prescribed, so I don't know if you're not U.S.-based or I just don't know the antibiotic. But given two different antibiotics haven't cleared this up... at this point I'd either have a chat with the vet, or consider a second opinion from a new vet. :dk:

Vibes for your boy! :vibes: :vibes: :vibes:

He only coughs once a day but I will see the vet.

No.

No no xray and his temperature was normal. He only coughs once a day.

The weather is cold and I though he got it from playing outside.

Kept him in for a week but yesterday he managed to run outside.  And I heard him cough.

I don't know what exactly you mean by congestion but the vet did hear what sounded a little like a wooshing or plastic wrap.

Thanks everyone.
