Anyone else watching the coverage of the horrific school shooting in Connecticut? Since it happened in the next state, we've got it on both the local and national channels here. I just can't begin to imagine what those poor families are going through. :(

It's absolutely horrific. I've been watching the news coverage off and on since it happened. I will just never understand this culture of violence in our society. :(

Yesterday morning I woke up to learn that two cops near where I live had been shot. (One passed away...she had four small children, and was best friends with the preceptor I trained under during my respiratory clinicals.) Then, I went to run errands and came back home to learn about the horrific ordeal in Connecticut, and all of those precious lives taken, and lives forever changed. Then last night, I learned about a man in China who stabbed 22 school children yesterday as well. It's just maddening!

It's such a sad, sad world we live in when you can no longer attend school, go to a movie, shop, or visit your place of worship, without having the thought in the back of your mind that some sick individual may try and kill you or your loved ones.

I'm not watching any of it. We found out about it yesterday right before we went to be with our grandchildren. Our grandson is in first grade; our granddaughter is in preschool. It broke my heart. The first thing we did when we saw our kids was just started hugging everybody with tears in our eyes. I cannot even begin to imagine how those families must feel.

It is just tragic.

I know I am not the only Coloradan on this board but my heart just goes out to all the families who have lost loved ones and to the community as a whole. I live almost exactly halfway between Columbine High School and the Aurora movie theatre where there was a mass shooting over the summer. It brings back some all too familiar feelings, although the fact that so many young children are involved just makes it so much worse.

I hope no one in the TCS family lost a loved one yesterday. All my thoughts are with those that did.

I have read little bits about it but I've had to stop.  My prayers have been with them all though.  When I first heard of it; it was when they had only released that there were 3 people at the hospital and that the shooter was dead.  I held onto hope that no children were lost and went to run my errands.  When I got home I heard the numbers...  I look at my kids and my heart just breaks for them, for their parents, the kids who saw things that no adult should ever see.

I have a headache from watching so much of it. Those poor children. It was revealed today they were only 6 and 7 years old that were killed. 8 boys, 12 girls. Breaks my heart. One of the teachers her class got to live because she jumped in front of the gunman and lost her life doing so. What a brave thing to do and she is and was a true hero. My thoughts and prayers go out to all the families and friends of the children and the teachers including the principal that also lost her life trying to protect the students.

I haven't watched it because it is just too heartbreaking. Whenever these people decide to shoot, have you noticed they always go somewhere they can be sure that there are no guns and nobody to shoot back.

Yes I have been watching it with horror.  The saddest thing I saw last night was the father of one of the girls who perished.  He told of what he was feeling barely getting the words out.  This is one of the most terrible crimes I have ever seen.

I feel the same way, you just cannot go anywhere without wondering what could happen to you.  We take things for granted living our lives without a care but then something like this happens and you realize no one is ever totally safe.  I know we cannot live in fear but I think we have to take caution in everything we do, just keep our eyes and ears open and see what is all around us at all times.

Very brave teachers, protective till the end its such a shame

Is it true that he used 6 guns? And mentally ill? How did he get them if he was?

Been watching it and it is unbelievably heartbreaking. I saw the interview with the father of one little girl - I think her name was Emily.
Words just can't express what a horrific thing this is.

I don't know how you all feel about gun control, but I think it's just too easy for people to get guns. That's not to say that he wouldn't have found a way to get guns, but there they were in his house and his mother was a gun collector.

Prayers for the families of those innocent little babies.

I've only been reading a little about it online. I just can't take it.

I was outside, trying to make my Christmas decorations look a bit better. I wish I could think of a way to do something with them to honor those who died.  At least symbolically, I could give them "Christmas".

I have been following this horrific event and wishing there something worse than dead for this person who could kill so many innocents.

Now instead of mourning the poor souls killed and their grieving families, some politicians are once again using a tragedy a a platform for gun control.

Can't they at least wait until they have finished with all the funerals?

Yes!  To me it's disrespectful to start pushing views  on these things so soon after a tragedy.  Let us all mourn; but especially those families.  Emotions are still much too raw and will be for a while.

I watched 20/20's coverage Friday night, I cried the whole time. It's just to heartbreaking! I'm a sensitive person anyway, so don't do to much news watching.

I saw a little more this morning on the Today show, but started crying again, so I just can't/won't watch anymore. They showed the memorial at the school w/ all the things people have been bringing there. There are also Christmas trees, one for each child on the walk way to the school. That just broke me down!  I have been praying for the families.

According to the reports I've read, he used 3 guns, including an assault weapon, inside the school, and there was a 4th weapon in his vehicle. The weapons were supposedly legally bought by his mother. He reportedly suffered from Asperger's, which is a form of autism, isn't a mental illness and doesn't make people violent. I don't know why his having Asperger's has to be repeated ad nauseum by the media.

There has been a tremendous amount of coverage in Germany, and people are just heartsick about it.
