Hi,

Cubby has sneezed more late, but mostly just once or twice in the morning. It's colder now and I lower the heat to 65* at night when I'm in bed. This AM he sneezed like a machine gun 15-20 times. I shooed him of the cat perch and that seemed to cause the sneezing to stop. I was afraid I was going to lose him or something. any ideas on what I should do about this? I feed them raw meats only and in general I'd say they are very healthy cats..

JUST raw meat or organs also(is it balanced?)

Possible a hair was up nose if it calmed down I would not worry.

Hi - He gets kidney in the backs of Cornish hens, and some hen liver, maybe some chicken livers, and canned fish. Cubby is eating liver more often these days. Luke would always eat liver any time. :)

I give them Coconut oil most every day, it helps with hairballs I think.

Well, I've been sneezing like crazy lately myself, so it's possible he's got allergies.  Have you got a Christmas Tree inside the house?  I can't have one because those make me sneeze, among other things.  But if he's just sneezing in the mornings, could be there is some night blooming something or other around?  But it does sound like,in this mornings case, he did get something up his nose that tickled it more than usual.  Unless it continues I wouldn't think there would be any reason to worry.

Hi - I don't have a Christmas tree. I run a very good air filter most of the time so I thought allergens would be low in this house.

He tends to vomit in the AM if I give him too much food at first. I need to give him a small portion and let him digest that for an hour or so before feeding him any more.:)

Are you sure you are feeding him nutritionally balanced meals, since you are feeding raw?  ( I don't mean to question you, it's just that I feed raw also, and I'm just starting to venture off of commercially prepared nutritionally complete food into the realm of mixing strips of raw meat with powdered eggshells (for the calcium since mine don't eat "bone-in" yet, and adding the correct amount of organs needed, plus this and that, and I'm so worried that I'm not going to get it balanced correctly.  It seems to be a fine science
)  You might want to venture over to our Raw Forum (under the Nutritional Forum) and start up a thread there just discussing what you are feeding, if you have any concerns there.

That being said, lots of cats DO vomit if they eat too fast or too much in any one sitting.  Don't know that that has anything to do with his sneezing, however.

Has there been any further sneezing? Catsallaround may be right - might just have been something up his nose if it was a one time event.

I do suggest you pop over to the raw forum. For a raw diet to be balanced, there needs to be at least three different proteins in rotation, preferably 5. If you're feeding the whole cornish hen, that's a good start. But if you're feeding just the backs, the diet is completely off in terms of the amount of meat (protein) for the amount of calcium, and they need to be fed in the proper balance. Liver and another secreting organ (most use kidney since it's easy to source) ought to be fed in a specific percentage of the overall diet, or you may run into problems with too little or too much vitamin A which can be toxic as it is a fat soluble vitamin, not water soluble. Depending on the fish, if you're not also feeding at least egg yolks, you may be missing vitamin D if you're not providing salmon or krill oil....

Hi,

Thanks for your replies and your concern. Good idea about the egg yolks. I was feeding them raw whole egg but I stopped that 2 or 3 months ago due to it causing them to vomit, or they refused to eat it.I put a yolk in their sardines last night and they really seemed to like it, so I will now give them a couple of raw yolks every week, at least. It seems like the yolk is a lot more appealing to them than the egg  white or the whole egg.

I feed them in rotation : raw pork, chicken leg with bones, boneless chicken thigh, all of Cornish Hens, canned sardines and salmon, and turkey thigh. All raw except the canned fish.

So they are getting the Cornish Game Hen liver and kidney? I'm imagining those little frozen birds you get in the grocer store...is that what you're feeding them?  Still not sure that is properly balanced overall.  We're got some folks in the Raw Forum who have the ability to analyze specific diets to see if they are lacking anything if you want to post over there.  We recently had a newbie discover she was severely over feeding bones, which could have been disastrous and that come up just in general conversation

Yes, the frozen Tyson CGHs, all of it, chopped up is part of their diet. Turkey, CGH, chicken, pork, canned fish, and egg yolk, that's it..
