So the old Black and Decker 12 cup has just about had it, and we only drink 2-3 cups out of the pot anyway.......Hubby's workplace has Tassimo brewers on for 89bucks until Christmas, and he wondered if I'd like one. I have to admit the idea of brewing only what I want appeals to me, though the coffee seems a little expensive(but is it really compared to throwing out 3/4 of each pot)

I was wondering what others thought of the brewer and if it's worth the investment?

I love my Tassimo. It's nice to only brew one cup at a time. I love that it foams milk too. I have the t65 model. We got my mother in law the t20 last year for christmas and it's much louder than mine but still does the same thing in the end.

The pods cost about $ 1 each. A dollar a cup for home brewed coffee is expensive, when you can buy a whole can of coffee for about $ 4. I think it tastes fresher when it doesn't come out of a pod anyway.

Even though your maker is a 12 cup model why don't you just brew the 2-3 cups you need in it? That way you wouldn't need to waste 3/4 of the pot.

That all depends on what ones you buy. Nabob coffee (here at least) is like $6 or $7 for 16 coffees. Specialty coffees can be $1 or more each, but it's still cheaper than going to a coffee shop. I just find it so much easier to just brew one cup as I need it. No coffee filters, scooping coffee, wasting half a pot...but that's just my opinion.

I think it all depends where you buy them. Grocery stores and Wal Mart are cheapest. We have a specialty store with imported t-discs that are more expensive. I like to go there though because they sell them individually so you can try one of everything. I believe they are 60 cents each that way.

Personally, I like Tassimo but Keurig is far more popular and wide spread. If you are in the US, you can get 80-100 K-Cups for $30-$40 at a Costco. At various points in the year, you can even get them for $23 (for 80). Because of this, I vote for a Keurig. In my region, Tassimo is still a pretty new product and not well stocked in stores.

I vote for the Keurig too.

We got one last year, and love it.  Most of the time we don't even use the K-cups.  We have an insert that you can put your own coffee in.  It's kind of messy and yeah- more to clean up.  But let me tell you, when we use the Starbucks ground coffee (and I can get that at a pretty good price at the commissary) it makes a pretty good cup of coffee.

Keurig is nice too b/c you can just brew hot water.  Though I'm sure the Tassimo does the same thing.

Another Keurig fan, here, too. We have one of the first Keurigs.....now they've come out with the Keurig Vue and all kinds of stuff.

I'm the only one who drinks coffee everyday......but I only drink one cup for the most part. Rather than fill a regular coffee pot and have the rest of the coffee go to waste, I would simply go without. Now I don't have to. We even bought a Keurig for work...no more drinking rot-gut coffee.

I love being able to buy different k-cups. Right now, I'm on a Barista Columbia kick; I just love that coffee. Another favorite with me is Timothy's Italian Blend.....heaven in a mug! You can't get them in a store anymore, so I'm still buying them from eBay (96 k-cups for around $70 or so). I don't like flavored coffee at all, so I've never checked out hazelnut coffee or butter toffee or flavors like that. But others say they're decadently delicious.

K-cups are considerably cheaper than Tassimo's pods, I think. They both make an expensive cup of coffee, though, when you compare them to simply brewing a whole pot of regular coffee.

I really think it's all in what you're looking for. They both seem to do the same job. Bed, Bath and Beyond sells Tassimo pods, I think. And if you join them online, you can get coupons from time to time on items in their stores.....including k-cups, pods, etc. I use my coupons for k-cups from BB & B. Helps keep the price down a bit. Also when my supermarket has them on sale and I have coupons, that helps, too.

The store where hubby works carries pods for about 9.99-10.99/package, or 50-60c/cup..compared to the 10.99 for my tub of Folgers which does about 2weeks it's more expensive, but We often end up going out to Timmies for coffee and paying $1.60-1.80each, rather than putting on a pot to throw it out so the cost per cup would be less compared to that

If I brew less than a pot it tastes funny....either too strong, or too weak.....I did think about getting a 6cup machine though if I don't get a Tassimo

To me, it sounds like you're already sold on the Tassimo. Just dive in, get it. Personally, it's not financially viable for my needs but if it works for you--do it.

That's what we often use for our coffee pad machine (Petra - a German brand), though I use coffee pads for the one at work.

One important consideration when buying a one-cup machine is how hot the coffee is. A lot of them just simply don't do "piping hot". Another is whether you can set how much water goes through so that you can adjust the strength of the coffee. We have a Senseo at work, and it really wasn't worth the price, because the coffee is lukewarm, and even the two-cup function with two pads doesn't fill a big mug.

I just got a Keurig for my birthday Wednesday and am enjoying my second cup of coffee from it. It's AWESOME.

I timed how long it takes to make a cup of coffee in my old coffeemaker - 18 minutes! The new one takes 60 seconds so that means I will finish my work 17 minutes earlier every morning.

I looked at those one cup systems and decided that they were too expensive and that one cup stuff just wouldnn't work for me since I drink about a quart of coffee per day in two sittings. So.....when the old coffee maker died, I went old school and just poured hot water through the old filter cone and it works great for me. I also use coffee beans because the coffee is much fresher from fresh ground beans and the two brands of coffee that work best in my water don't come in those cups anyways. .

My Tassimo makes the coffee hot. My mother in laws cheaper one doesn't make it nearly as hot. If you're going to get one, I would suggest NOT getting the t-20 model. The coffee comes out tasting the exact same, but the machine is much louder and it doesn't get as hot.

My Keurig's coffee is piping hot (it's the platinum B70 model). I heat up my mug with hot water beforehand because I like my coffee very hot! I noticed on the instructions that you can turn down the temperature, but the default is the hottest and I've got no complaints.

I'm looking at the Keurig B40 in Canadian Tire.... the Tassimo they have in my price range was the T20, so I guess that sort of goes against it...I'll spend 80 on a multi-function small appliance, but I can't afford the jump to 129 for the better model......I'll have to have hubby tell me which model they sell at work....
The thing in Tassimo's favor is the price point on it's T-discs......but Keurig has reusable pods, so I can use my Folgers...so it may be cheaper  to use in the long run

Maybe I should wait for boxing day sales and see if a better one comes down in price for me......

I don't know what a Tassimo brewer is but I do have a Keurig.  My first one was purchased about 5 years ago but then I recently upgraded to the more quiet Keurig.  I don't always use the K-cups since they are expensive.  I use my own coffee most of the time but I do buy the K-cups at times.  I love the fact that the coffee is always fresh when you make it, I drink one to two cups a day and enjoy it very much.  I'll never go back to the older coffee makers again.
