Best dewormer for cats and dogs

what is the best dewormer for cats and dogs that get ride of and pervant 2 or more types of worms ,I keep finding only roundworm dewormer and tap worm de wormer

You need good flea control to help prevent some kinds of tapeworm, and cats that hunt and eat their prey need regular worming - every 3 months.

Drontal does both roundworm and tapeworm but they are huge, Milbemax does as well and is far smaller but I believe isn't available in the US.

Have you rung your vets?  And are heartworm a problem where you live?

heart worms is bad in are area for dogs but I don't know about cats thou

and I heard Drontal is heard on a cats health and I will ring my vets tomorrow I just found worms in a pile of poo and I think its tap worms and I ran ot of d wormer and I can't find the de wormer I usually buy, and my cats are allergic to frontline adams etc and I flea comb all my pets everyday and keep there living area clean and bath them once a week

Drontal is a broad spectrum dewormer, dosed by weight and obtained from the vet. I don't think the pills are large at all. Certainly no larger than the kibble some cats swallow whole. I pill a friends' two cats every three months with drontal. Do your cats go out?

Profender is a spot on broad spectrum dewormer. It is, like the drontal, dosed by weight and must be obtained from the vet. It is put on the back of the neck once a month.

Revolution flea control spot on controls roundworm and hookworm (and ear mites) but does not kill tapeworm.

Don't use over the counter de-wormers, they don't work, and put your cats at risk, they are not safe.

Drontal is a good broad-spectrum de-wormer (both roundworms and tapeworms), and is available OTC now (in case your vet is a pain and won't give dewormers without seeing each cat ). You dose by weight so make sure you have a decent scale.

You can get plain pyrantel pamoate suspension (generic Strongid--only kills rounds worms, hookworms, etc., not tapeworms) OTC but it's not usually found in pet stores. The easiest kind to find is sold for horses. You have to make sure to get the dosage right based on weight and the strength of the suspension (some are 50 mg/ml, some are 100 mg/ml, it's on the bottle so read the label).

Usually if you see worms in the poop it's round worms but I think a round of Drontal for everybody wouldn't be a bad idea.

Drontal are huge in my view compared to a cat's neck.  Like me swallowing something far, far larger.

In the UK we can get Milbemax from the vets which is just as affective but the size of a few grains of rice.  it's far easier to dose a cat with.  However for some bizarre reason it's not available in the US.

My vet is the type I have to see each cat ugh do you think petco might have drontal? and how much is it

I buy Drontal for cats online - it is just important to buy the cat version so you get the right dose.

You can get Drontal online. Most cats need 1 1/2 pills, and the usual price I've seen is $3-$4 a pill.

It doesn't really matter if they go outside or not. You can track in roundworm eggs on your shoes, or the dogs can bring them in, and tapeworm comes from fleas, who can get anywhere. I prefer to de-worm my cats regularly (about every 3 months) even if I don't see any signs of worms. I only use Drontal once a year or so, the rest of the time I use pyrantel.

I can't keep the brand names straight, so I just remember the active ingredients.  Pyrantel pamoate is a popular broad-spectrum wormer, as is fenbendazole.  Ivermectin (topical treatment) will also kill most worms plus fleas, ear mites, and heartworm.  Those will kill all types of worms except tapeworms, which require praziquantel.  So, whatever you get, look for those active ingredients, and look at how many mg are in each pill.  Each ingredient has a minimum dosage required to be effective (give in mg per unit of body weight).  These same ingredients appear in a lot of products, so it's worthwhile to check if the more expensive brand is actually just the same thing as something else you could get for less.  

Please, PLEASE get an accurate weight on your cat before dosing with these harsh products. Don't guess.

You can try the: 'weigh yourself, weigh yourself holding the cat and subtract' method, or you can drive your cat to the vet just for a weight. I used to do that, before I bought a baby scale. It doesn't cost anything. Just bring the cat in, wait for a free room, and put the cat on the scale when the assistant tells you you can.

It is VERY important to know the weight of your cat and to understand the correct dose. Don't guess the weight. It is very difficult to estimate the weight of a cat, unless you are in the habit of weighing weekly.

my cat hunts frequently. I use spot on flea treatment once a month, and also worm him once a month. He recently vomited on two occasions as soon as I  gave him Drontal (crushed and mixed in his food).

I saw bits of tapeworm on his coat again yesterday, so I need to get a wormer that he wont vomit up, and that works on Tapeworms.

I have to put the tablets in his food as I would end up with an injury if I tried to put one down his throat!
