My 8 yo old Siberian Cat has been eating Science Diet Hairball for most of his life.  He loves it.  Recently we noticed he was throwing up almost every day and since we don't really like the SD anyway we switched.  My husband bought the Petsmart brand Simply Nourish (just regular adult cat) and he like it.  We thought we were making a good step but Thunder started getting clumps of poop on his fur and we found clumps of poop on the floor.  He also was just diagnosed with a UTI.  The vet said maybe with him rubbing his butt on the floor to get the poop off, he got bacteria in his urethra.  So now I need to switch again.  Do I need to look for high fiber to help poops?  Vet suggested Indoor formula but I feel like I remember him getting sick on an indoor formula when he was little (don't remember which one).  Any thoughts?  We have tried almost every food for him in the past, trying to get him off the SD and he is very picky and wouldn't eat them.  We do give wet food at night but all three of the cats will only eat a few bites and then walk away.  Right now we are also feeding Nutro Max Chicken Adult and Purina One Sensitive Systems- he won't eat them.  The other 2 cats each like those so that is why.  I was thinking of trying Nutro Max Hairball to see if I could get 2 cats on the same food.  Help!

For hairballs and UTIs (and pretty much everything else, for cats :tongue2:), canned food is better. There's no better way to get moisture into them, and almost all canned foods have more meat protein and less carbs than kibble. Check out www.catinfo.org

How did you transition Thunder over to the Simply Nourish from the Science Diet If you did it slowly, over the course of a couple of weeks, he should have adjusted to the new food without the side effects you described. If you just made an immediate switch, that might explain the loose stool etc. The best help for a UTI is wet food. Have you tried the Nutro Natural Choice Indoor formula? You might want to check it out at http://www.nutro.com/natural-pet-food/natural-cat-food.aspx You might have tried it already. The Nutro Max is also on the link I sent you. All 4 of mine have done well on the Nutro Max Indoor chicken formula but I've gotten them all transitioned to a more wet diet. Their diet is 90% wet to 10% kibble. They are all doing fantastic on this diet. The wet I use is Nutro Max Cat, Nutro Natural Choice and a few other premium brands to mix up the flavors and textures. Best of luck to you and Thunder on your quest :D
