I have four of my own indoor cats, so I am at my limit both legally and financially. We moved into our rental in July 2012 and there's been two poor strays that I've been feeding and caring for as best I can. Today one of these little guys showed up with a torn ear from a fight and so I took him to the vet as it just broke my heart. He's very friendly, he's not at all aggressive and backs down to all the other strays in the area. He's so loving, he gently climbs into my lap not using his claws and then puts his arms around my neck and rests his head on my shoulder.

This is not the first time he's been injured living outside, when I first met him he had a crinkled ear that looked as if it was mangled long ago. Now his other ear had to be sutured and while he's at the vet he's getting blood tests and will be vaccinated and neutered as well. So - by tomorrow he should be considered much more "adoptable". Personally I am strapped, I have been on medical disability following a surgery so money is tight. I know the vet will work something out with me but the bill is $707 for everything they said was necessary. He is at Community Companion Animal Hospital in Temple City, California. Dr. Wong is the vet. Please PM me for their phone number.

I am humbly asking for help for this guy that we call "Crinkles" -- finding him a place to live and if anyone is feeling like they can help with a little bit of the bill that would be wonderful too...I am happy to have someone pay the vet directly and confirm anything they feel in order to know this is for real.

My biggest concern is that I can't keep him inside with me other than a couple of nights closed up in the bathroom (we only have one) while his sutures heal. I don't know what I got myself into with him, I just couldn't look the other way when he showed up on the porch this morning bleeding.  He was so mellow at the vet, they remarked how calm and sweet his disposition is.

I will send pics and info to anyone, I have had a hard time adding pics to this post and getting it to work so am trying without pics this time.

Just found out he is FIV positive but leukemia negative. Going to pick him up tonight, vet said his surgeries went well. Any advice on caring for a FIV positive cat?

What a handsome guy he is!  We have people here on this site who have FIV cats intermixed in with their "regular" cats and have no issues with them, if you decide to keep him afterall.  For advise on how care for him, you might want to start up another thread under the Health Forum.

As far as trying to find him a home, I guess you have already tried contacting all the no-kill shelters in your area?  Did the Vet say you could post a sign in their office?  I see signs all the time in our Vet's office whenever we go in.

Many shelters will put down a FIV positive cat.  If you do take him to a shelter PLEASE be certain it is a no-kill.  He seems to really like you.  I would want to keep him.  He has obviously been someone's pet and been abandoned/lost.  Poor boy.

From the Mod Team Regarding Pleas for money:

Cats are a huge responsibility. Anyone who thinks otherwise, should not have one in their life. They are dependent on us for everything from providing a place to eat, to also providing vet care.

Anyone who has cats knows that they can and do get ill. Your best defense is to plan for that to happen before it does, and store monies away in preparation.

If you read about a plight of an animal on the internet and your heart is drawn to help. Check out the story thoroughly. Google the vet's name or call Directory Assistance in the city and be sure this is a legitimate claim.

Do not blindly send money into a paypal account no matter how heart-wrenching the story. Instead reach out to the member and ask for the vet's name and phone number, and arrange to send the money there for the specific needs of the cat in question.

If that information cannot be provided- you have your answer. Report the post to a moderator so that it can be removed for not being on the level.

Welcome to TCS, Patty90031. :wavey: Thank you for taking care of this guy.

Anyone who wants to send money to the vet will probably need your name and the cat's name that they have on their records. Please share this information through PMs, not on the public board.
