Hello,

We found a new male stray. Appears well; eats well; friendly. His urine has a strong ammonia odor. Does anyone have an opinion on this? Will be taking him to the vet soon. Thanks, jsmls

My cat use to have a very strong smell to his urine and ended up developing struvite crystals and getting blocked. I would consider a wet food diet or a mix of wet and dry..a bladder health one would be best

A strong ammonia smell can be an indication of kidney disease so please bring him to the vet to be checked asap.

It's most likely due to his not being neutered yet. Intact males have VERY strong smelling pee. But as the others have stated, it can also be an indication of something going wrong with his kidneys and urine processing.

Thank you for rescuing this boy! So wonderful to know another homeless kitty will be loved and cared for. :rub:
