I'm so sorry to read about your husband.....thank goodness, he's gotten through the worst of it. You are both in my thoughts and I'm wishing for a speedy recovery. Take a few minutes out of every day for YOU because YOU are important, too.

Well, he will eventually heal, thankfully, but it won't be easy. He's still in the hospital, but in a private room. When he gets discharged, we may have to stay with his father a bit until our new apartment is available; we live upstairs, and with fractures in both his legs and major abdominal surgery/colostomy to boot, stairs are impossible for him for at least a few months.

I do have a question for you guys. Venus misses her daddy and of course will be coming with us. However, she has always liked to jump on Daddy's legs and belly. Obviously now jumping on the legs will cause him pain and on the belly pain plus possible damage. How can I encourage positive and safe interaction between Venus and my husband?

Oh that's a tough one. You may want to start a thread in the Behavior forum about it.

Thanks. He may be discharged as early as this weekend, but we're not sure yet if he'll go to a rehab facility or straight home. We're waiting to hear the doctor's recommendation later today, what's available for home care, and go from there. I'd sure like him home though.

Definitely. He's my best friend, and hospital or not, I wouldn't dream of being apart from him on Christmas.

Is there scent (maybe a cologne or an essential oil or similar) he likes and at the same time she doesn't like? That might be helpful. However if a cat is very attached to a human they might value skritches over avoiding a scent.

You might try putting Venus on the couch or chair beside him instead of waiting for her to jump up. Cats sometimes seem to know when their people are sick and become very good nurse kitties. You'll have to watch her closely, but she may surprise you by being gentle with him while he's healing.

Venus Kitty : I hope you saw my post in the other forum about how your husband can protect his abdomen and still hang out with kitty. I went through 2 abdominal surgeries and it worked perfect. Hope your husband is feeling better.
