Is one of these better than the other?  From what I read, they are both broad-spectrum wormers that kill all but tapeworms.  Are they basically the same?  All I can find is not to give them at the same time because they do the same thing, so that's basically overdosing them.

Fenbendazole is nearly impossible to get into a cat but covers one more type of worm than pyrantel which is whipworms.  Never saw whips in a cat yet.  Pyrantel is much, much eaiser to get into a cat.  Fenbendazole used daily for 5 days will cover giardia and some folks use it for that reason as it is much more efiicacious against giardia than almost anything else.

You have to give a LOT of fenbendazole. I think 5-6 ml for an average size cat. Pyrantel, you only need to give 1 ml. So I haven't even tried fenbendazole for that reason. I don't think I could get that much into them.

Yeah, I see what you mean.  I recently wormed all my cats with fenbendazole and was definitely surprised by the dose, but I mixed it in with wet cat food and they ate the whole thing, so no problem.  I also gave them praziquantel, but that was a much smaller amount, so I put it with a bit of salmon oil and injected it into the mouth (which they weren't crazy about).  I also noticed that the wormer sold at the pet store is piperazine, but from what I can tell, it's only effective on round worms, and some cats apparently get sick from it?

I asked because I was looking at the most readily available wormers, and it seems they are all pyrantel pamoate, so it made me wonder if there was something better about it that it's more common.  I guess if I can get the wormer into the cat, though, it's just as good.

Good to know about giardia, too.  Have never had a problem with that, but good to know just in case.  I do take in unwanted barn cats sometimes and some of those barns are adjacent to cattle feedlots.

Read the info on the datasheet.  Fenbendazole is sold as Panacur and comes in a variety of different preparations.  You need to use the right dose for your cat and the particular version of Panacur you buy.  Not sure if the oral paste would be easier than the suspension.  In the UK you can buy Panacur online without a prescription.
