Hi all,

I've got a 5-year-old toothless kitty. He's a healthy eater, and has always happily eaten dry food. The way he eats dry food is by putting his paw in the bowl and pulling it up in a scooping motion. Whatever stays on his paw, he picks up with his mouth and eats. He will also pick food off the top of the pile if the bowl is freshly filled (piled up). I don't know if he's unable to pick food up directly from the bowl when it's not piled up, or from the floor, but he never does. His method of eating is messy, as his scooping pushes the food out of the bowl and all over the mat under it. But in general, this is what has been working for all of us all along.

Recently, we switched food in an attempt to correct some digestion issues with another cat. We made sure the kibble would be small enough for the toothless cat. He likes the new food and it is small enough for him, but the shape of it (just the slightest bit rounder than the previous kibble) seems to be harder for him to keep in his paw. He's still getting enough to eat, but with a bit more effort, and the kibble gets everywhere much more than previously and he seems frustrated at times waiting for us to pick it all back up for him.

My question is this: do any other toothless cat owners have creative ways of helping their cats eat? I'm sure they all eat in different ways, but do any of you see your cat use the scooping method? We wonder sometimes if a certain shape of bowl might be helpful to him, or a specific type of mat. Any suggestions would be helpful!
