One of our cats, Bella, a slim female Tabby, is a very affectionate cat that my girlfriend rescued from the street a few years ago. At the time she was taken in, Bella had a lump on her back that needed to be lanced by the vet to be cured.  It was just about that time that my girlfriend contracted MRSA for which she is still being treated.

Bella is not showing any signs of sickness, no sores, nothing.  In fact, she just had her comprehensive exam by Banfield pet hospital a week ago and was found to be in perfect health.

Because so much is being written online about MRSA infected pets, as well as MRSA infected veterinary employees, my girlfriend keeps wondering if Bella might have been, and continues to be, the source her problem.

Four veterinarians have told me stuff like, "It's a one in a million chance a cat can give a person MRSA," and "Cats cannot give a person MRSA," and "If there's no wound on Bella, there's no way to check her for MRSA."

What is the truth?  Is there a test that can be given Bella, even though she does not have a wound, just so my girlfriend's mind can be at ease?  The antibiotic she's on is one misery pill, I tell you.

There is a wonderful vet, Dr. Dan Simpson in Rhode Island, who has had a lot of problems with MRSA himself. He would give you reliable information, so I hope you will be able to get in touch with him.

You'll find info about his radio show on Saturday mornings if you click on Pet Care on that web site. (I try to listen to him whenever I can. He talked about MRSA only a few weeks ago.)
