HI Everyone:

I have a 17-year-old cat who was just diagnosed with lymphoma (pretty sure it is GI lymphoma).  Back in June I noticed her being lethargic.  She would lay outside in a chair all day, not eating and vomiting.  I took her to the vet and they did some blood work and noticed her liver enzymes were elevated.  Wasn't too concerned about it and told me it was probably an infection in her lower GI tract.  I had the blood work repeated in August and the liver enzymes were slightly worse but basically about the same.  I then had an ultrasound done which showed a hypoechoic liver, slightly thickened intestine, and enlarged lymphocytes.  After a liver biopsy, in which the vet told me that there was diffuse disease in the liver, it was determined that she has either primary liver cancer or GI lymphoma.  In any event, she has been on prednisone for a couple weeks now and her appetite has increased and her weight has stayed the same.  Vomiting has subsided, and I'm at the point where I either start Chlorambucil or not.  I am really torn whether to start this or not.  I had a previous cat who had multiple myeloma and I started Malphalan with him which made him really sick.  My concern is that it will make her really sick.

I have read previous posts about the Chlorambucil.  Some of them against chemo all together, and some of them had only positive things to say about Chlorambucil.  So I'm putting this out there to get other opinions about this chemo.  The dose they recommend is 4 mg every 2 weeks.  The prednisone dose is currently at 5 mg daily.

Thank you so much to everyone for their advice. and support.

Love Little Kitty

Welcome to the forum, Geronimo!

IF I were facing this question, I would be putting it to this group of people: http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/feline_lymphoma/

These specialized groups have years and years of experience (that group started in 1998) in managing their kitties' lymphoma and they're on the leading edge of current therapy protocols - often, ahead of most general Vets. As I said, I'd be there.

Thinking of you and Little Kitty
I know that she's oh soooo very lucky to have you.

Hi, Geronimo.  While i don't have any personal experience with this drug, we have a couple of members whose cats have been treated for Lymphoma recently with Chemo, but not with this drug, I don't believe.

Hopefully they will be able to help you with your decision, or at least give you their stories

for your old girl
