My rescue domestic short hair male has had a recurring swollen lip for the past year. He has been getting Convena injection every six weeks, now he is swollen after 9 days. I have switched to Hypoallergenic Hydrolyzed food, yesterdays news litter, stainless steel feeding dishes, and all plastic eliminated. He is only 2 years old, they want to do a biopsy. Has anyone been through this. What could it be??

It's probably eosinophilic granuloma, commonly called rodent ulcer. Ask your vet if he/she thinks this sounds like a possibility.

t can be caused by allergies, stress, autoimmune disease, parasite infestation, etc. L-lysine can help, and a high-quality diet and low-stress lifestyle. Basically, you need to figure out what's setting him off, and then try to eliminate/minimize the cause. It can be a real process :(.

Steroids or immune suppressants are the traditional treatments. Isn't Covenia an antibiotic? I wonder why a vet would use an antibiotic for this? Anyway, if it's a chronic condition you might want to contact a holistic vet. They're generally better with chronic conditions than traditional vets.
