An "acquaintance" of ours (not a friend - just an acquaintance) called this afternoon. He currently rents a room from a lady who is losing her house to foreclosure so he has to find a new place to live. He sort of hinted to Paul that he would like a rent a room for "a week or two" from us - until we finds a permanent place. We definitely do not want to do this, but don't want to sound cold or nasty about it. We had someone we know stay with us once for 2 months and it was nightmare and ended badly. What would you say to this person so as to not hurt his feelings? I think he may stop by to see us tomorrow.

If he is just an acquaintance, I would just tell him that due to Paul's heart condition, you just cannot have anyone staying at this time.

Lana, I don't really think you have to give this person an excuse.  Just say, this is not a good time for anyone staying in your home and leave it at that.  You don't need to give him a reason.
