Over the river and through the woods...
DH started decorating outside last night, so far so good. Now, keep in mind, this is a multi-night task. It's definitely not as simple as putting up a few strands of light and putting a wreath on the door. No, my husband is a Griswald wanna be. And every year it's different. So far, we have the icicle lights around the house, but we still have the rope lights, blow up penquin, plastic santa from the 60's and god knows what else to put up.

There is one cute thing he's doing that I like. Our garden last year was in front of the house and each plot was fenced in to keep out the critters. So, since we have a gazillion of lighted reindeer, he's putting them in the gardens to make reindeer pens and outlining the pens in lights.

The kicker is, everything is hooked up to a music system where he can program the lights the go on and off in time with the music. Yeah, you can say my husband loves Christmas.

Today's question is: Do you decorate outside and, if so, how elaborate is it?

I'm a total light-weight when it comes to doing the outside.  I have no patience with hanging lights, and it's a pain to hitch them to the power source (and it runs up my electric bill).

I do always put a (real) pine garland around the front door, accented by faux sugar-coated red apples. I hang a faux, with clear, battery-powered mini lights wreath on the front door, with something red to match the garland.

On the front porch, I put real greens into a black urn, and throw something red (apples, usually ) into that.  I also have Rosenkrantz, my Victorian dog statue. At Halloween, he gets a red satin (I made it) vampire's cape, and a half-mask. At Christmas, he gets a small wreath around his neck or a bow.

I put fresh greens in the window box (bathroom window, beside the front door).  I also hang fresh greens, with a red bow, on the mailbox.

Some years, I hang the ubiquitous wreaths with red bows on the windows in the front.

I sometimes decorate the front yard portion of our white fence with real wreaths and greenery swags.

Trust me, I really do much better indoors!

Nothing outside and barely anything inside.  After hearing the reindeer pen/garden idea I want to have THAT!

We need some photos of the "reindeer pens"! DH puts a couple of Christmas figures in the window box out front when he replants it for the winter, but that's it for outdoor decorations. I don't go overboard on indoor decorations, either.

Oh we definitely need pics, especially of the reindeer pens!

I've got a bit outside. Wreaths on the doors, swags under the window, some lights on bushes..... I even put up a real Christmas tree. :lol3:
