Last Wednesday our cat Flower died. He was 11 and had had a stroke. Unfortunately he died only 1 day after our guinea pig died and only a couple of weeks after our hamster died. Although biologically a neutered male he was always known as a girl.

She came to us from a cat-keeping friend. She had been part of a feral colony as a tiny kitten and was given to us when her sister had cat flu so she didn't catch it. We couldn't resist keeping her.

She used to have a tooth that permanently stuck out. But a mouth abcess resulting in the loss of seven teeth meant that bit of her was no more.

After the stroke she had to be syringe fed and on the day of her death couldn't even stand up. But we decided to keep on feeding her until she either died or recovered.

When she died our cat Columbine couldn't have cared less. But Vani was very good friends with her and went off his food the first evening, then just didn't know what to do with himself the next day. But I am glad he didn't get too depressed.

We miss the burrowing under the duvet in the evening. We miss the thick fur around the face which sometimes resembled a chinchilla. We miss the many gaps in her teeth. We miss the endless playfights with Vani. We miss the love of woolly things. In short, we miss Flower.

Flower and Vani.Flower is the tabby.
