I am the proud poppa of 4 former ferals (now full-time indoor luvs.) Lily, Daisy, Sweetie, & Savannah.

I adopted Lily & Daisy 6 years ago from a friend who is a TRUE feral angel. She owns property near Victoria, TX on which there are several feral colonies. She TNR's as many as she can on an ongoing basis. She brought Lily & Daisy to me with a group of 5 other beauties. The seven kittens were released in my home with me laying on the floor in front of the carrier. Lily came straight to me & nestled in my arms. The others wandered around a bit, checking the place out. Finally Daisy crawled up onto my back, looking over my shoulder at Lily. That was it. They chose me.

About a year later after having moved in with a friend, Sweetie claimed the backyard as her special sanctuary. She'd meet me every morning & walk & sit with me. Finally, she showed signs of going into heat (I know, I waited a bit long, sorry.) I then took her in to be spayed & made her a member of our full-time indoor family.

Just recently a little kitten appeared at work. We all took care of her, bringing her food & keeping her company. She was friendly but reluctant to get too close. I became her BBF when I brought some wet food for her. It then became difficult for me to keep her back so I could work (also, difficult for ME to stay away from her.) So, she too has joined our full-time indoor family. Her name is Savannah. She is one energetic little ball of fur & has renewed the sense of "kitten-hood" in her big sisters. They too have been great "big sisters" & have accepted her very nicely.

Folks, I have some sad news. Daisy, one of my first kitties in my current group of 4 passed on last night. She'd been unwell for some time. She'd eat & drink very little. Money has been tight. Unfortunately, I delayed getting her to the vet. this past Saturday I finally took her in. The vet suggested forced feeding & a saline drip which I had to administer at home. She simply did not respond positively & took a severe turn for the worse Sunday. Administering the treatments (forced feeding & saline drip) was like torture. She was severely stressed when I did it. She became weaker & weaker each time I did it. I left her alone last night, fearing the worse. I take comfort in the fact that I DID take the time to lay next to her & talk quietly to her about how much I love her, how beautiful she is, how much she means to me, & the place she has in my heart. When I got up in the morning she was gone. The thing that will LIVE in my memory along with all the joyful memories I have of her, is the position I found her in. She was laying on her side & had raised her head & tail. She looked like she was runing in the sun :-) She even seemed to have a smile on her face. I love her deeply. I HURT badly. but try to keep my mind on the love & GREAT memories she has given me. She was only seven years old but she gave me 7 years of joy & love. She is survived by her 3 sisters, Lily (a littermate), Sweetie, & Savannah. I love them all deeply but now there is a hole in the picture & in my heart.

I am so very sorry for your loss of Daisy.  I am in tears reading your story.  Please know that Daisy knew and felt your love and care.  You are in my thoughts during this difficult time.

I'm so sorry to hear you have lost Daisy. My thoughts are with you as you try to fill that hole in your heart. It a hole many of us can share.  Remind your self that you did everything you could, and that she knew you loved her.  Remember to take care of yourself and those 3 beautiful cats of yours.  It is a beautiful thought that Daisy is running in the sun and I hope it will help you slowly be able to focus on your good times together as a family and feel your grief lessen.

Once again thank you all for your kind words of support & caring. It means so much to know there are people out there who care!

There has been a development. Daisy has been gone for a little over a week. Just yesterday a stray made an appearance in my backyard. She is a gray, stripped tabby. She is quite skittish & wary of me. She seemed to appreciate that I provided her with food, water, & company. She was out there when I went out early in the morning. She stayed all day and was still present when I came in just after sunset. I will continue to feed her in hopes that she will become acclimated to me. I'd like to take her to the vet asap to be spayed, get shots, & a check up. If all goes well I will take her in with Daisy's sisters (Lily, Sweetie, & Savannah.)

Of course, There's no way she can replace Daisy but it would be my joy to provide a loving sanctuary for her.
