This little guy was only just past 3, before he had an UTI that went unnoticed, and I had left him with a catsitter that did not realize it was unusual for him to go a day without playing fetch. (2-5 hours everyday for 2 years, I kid you not.) By the time he was critical, he had crawled off to hide and it became obvious something was very wrong, and I was contacted. Rushed home, rushed him to the emergency vet clinic. He died later that night, leaving his brother behind.
A month later, I'm still having trouble. This was a small creature who left behind a resounding absence. I used to find him slightly annoying with how much time he wanted for affection and fetch. He was such a character that people I didn't really know would come visit to meet the wonder cat. He got so good at fetch that he could catch the ball in midair... with his mouth! Sometimes, anyway.
I miss him, very much, everyday. But I have gotten alot of consolations and support that it's all right since I did all I could to save him. But.. I wonder, is there any other cat, like him, out there?
He was extremely energetic, cheerful, friendly, hilarious. Dipped his head in a bowl of catnip tea once, and got so obsessed with the ball that he'd jump up and down with the motion of the ball, his mouth open in hot pursuit. He also liked shaking paws with strangers, would sit on command, both of which he learned by me using his ball instead of treats as incentive haha. He would also go on walks and runs on a leash with me, never stopped purring unless he was out cold. Never hissed once in his life, or raised a claw to a person, he'd always run away if someone provoked him. He was a hell of a cuddler too! He'd sorta hug whichever part of you he was on, and hold your hand with both paws. Kinda pet you sometimes, too. This cat must've thought he was part lab, part cat, part human.
He was even smart enough to drop the ball down the stairs to play fetch if nobody was up to it. If anyone asks, I say fluffy made me into a crazy cat lady. Sheesh! Wish I had him for 10+ years, not just 3.
