I am so thrilled to have stumbled on this site and found so many cat lovers.

We lost our beloved kitty on November 7 after a long illness.

Now we have a new rescue kitty who is very shy.

We have had her since Monday and she is still hiding.

We are hoping that she will become the loving kitty that we would like to have.

Welcome to the site!

Im sorry to hear about your loss.

As for your new kitty I am sure she will come around soon. It is not unusual for a cat to hide when they are brought into new environments. I had a foster who was scared to come out for a while, but as soon as she did she would snuggle up on your lap and purr. Very sweet cat, but you would have never have known it when you first met her because of how scared she was.

Thank you.

Our new kitty, Tori came out last night and explored the whole house.

She slept with us at the foot of the bed.

She was very affectionate and loving.

However this morning, we went back into hiding and I have no idea where.

I know she is Ok, because she ate her breakfast.

I am hoping she will decide to come out again later today.

Did this ever happen to anyone else?

Not an unusual behavior, no.  Sleeping on your bed, etc., is a very good sign.  Remember, cats are normally nocturnal, and there's no telling what the situation was where she was before.  You can reduce the hiding by keeping her in one room, but I wouldn't say that you really have to do anything.

I have been looking for her for hours.

She has to be here somewhere because there is no way she could get outside.

When my husband gets home, we will do a thorough search just to make sure she is Ok.

Wherever she is, she is probably laughing at me. LOL

Welcome to TCS!  Thank you for adopting a rescue kitty.  I'm sure she'll warm up to you soon, but don't know if she'll ever stop hiding.  Sometimes Daisy hides, I panic and run all over the house yelling for her, then she materializes out of thin air blinking and sleepy-eyed, wondering what all the fuss is about.

Daisy sounds like a character .

Kitties have such personality and I am learning that each one is different.

After we successfully got Tori out from behind my China Buffet, she was all over me for the rest of the night.

Slept with us and woke me up at 5:30 AM for breakfast.

It is the first time she ever meowed for food.

I was so excited.

We are trying to block all the dangerous places she can hide.

Right now she is under the futon and that is a safe place for her.

Plan to getting her a bed of her own and a maybe a cat tree today.

Thanks for all your help.
