My boyfriend told me of this cat he had been seeing lately at my apartment buildings parking lot, the last couple of times he had been over at night. Not siting him during the day. Said the cat came right to him, purring, wanting to play, sat on his lap, even tried to get in the car as my BF was trying to leave. Said was a male, looked to be neutered and at a good weight. I was like...ok he seems to obviously belong to some one right? Just an outdoor guy.

Well I spotted him while walking the neighborhood just as I was almost back to my building. (he was actually next door), and he came crying up to me, rubbing my legs, purring and of course following me. I got a good look at him. He was of a pretty good weight but very dirty. I checked with a neighbor of mine, who I knew had cats, thinking maybe was his...nope..but he said that cat has been around now for about a month. He often shelters in the guys garage which he keeps open. This cat was obviously SOMEONE's at one time. I'm already fostering 1 and have 2 of my own. The cold at night is getting worse and I'm just not sure what I should do next. Any ideas?

Tricky one, maybe ring round the local vets and shelters to see if anyone has lost their cat, sounds like hes been around people if he is so friendly, maybe put a couple of posters up to.

I hope the poor thing hasn't just been dumped

Yea me too :(

I'm going to try and get a good picture of him so I can do some foot work to the local vets.

I did feed him last night and put out water. He gobbled it like he was starved. I just hope he can stay healthy enough to tolerate a bit of cold weather. There is a house nearby that has a barn on their property that is always open also. So I know he has shelter available. Seems he does stay in the general vicinity of this group of houses and my apartment building.

It's just a shame that the timing sucks for this to come along when I already have a foster in my house. Still trying to socialize her to my 2 resident cats. Takes so much time!

My sister has had some luck putting a collar on a stray in the fall, and a tag "Does someone own me? Call xxx-xxxx" or something to that effect. One cat turned out to be a stray, the other one was owned, and the owner did call. Of course, the stray was pregnant!
