As some people may know, we are currently treating our kitty Toby for his large cell lymphoma where he just finished chemo and immediately after went out of remission- so is on Rescue chemo now.

I took my other kitty Lulu to the vet yesterday because she hasn't been eating much recently and dropped from 7lbs, her normal weight, to 5lbs. They did a blood test and said everything was normal except her white count was 1800 and normal is 1500. They think it might be a bad tooth as one of them looked a little wobbly and could be infected and maybe that is why she isn't eating.

When the vet called this morning with the results she said we need to give Lulu Clindamycin just in case it is the tooth and that will clear it up. But if it isn't the tooth, then she may need an xray to see if it could be something else or cancer.

Because we are going out of town tomorrow and I just finished giving this same med to my foster kitties and it gave them diarrhea, I called the vet back and said I needed to medically board Lulu for the time she is given the Clindamycin because I don't know how my cat sitter will be able to find her, dose her, and get her to eat food with pumpkin and probiotic in it while at the same time getting my cancer kitty Toby to eat anything at all.

They called me back and said that is fine but she needs a rabies vaccine and the vet thinks she is medically fit to have it given her blood tests were all normal. They said their vaccine is the purevax so it should be ok.

I told them the vet had said if it isn't her tooth it could be cancer, and it seemed risky to vaccinate her and tax her immune system if we don't really know what is wrong with her.

So they are going to call me back. My question is, does anyone have any advice for me? Lulu is not a bitey cat, she is front declawed (not by us!), very small, and not at all aggressive. That is why I am wondering why they would be assertive about the vaccine as she is not a threat to other cats.

I'm sure it's not about her being a threat to other cats. More of a legal thing with their employees. Personally I would try every other option before vaccinating a sick senior cat, but for boarding it may be unavoidable :/. Ask the vet if there's any way to avoid it.

The vet called back and said no problem, it would be fine if we did not do the vaccine. Thank heavens! And in the meantime my kitty sitter called and said she would have no problem giving her the clindamycin and pumpkin/probiotic herself. So I am going to leave Lulu here and the vet said if Lulu needed to go there for medical boarding at any point, my cat sitter could bring her.

I sure do feel a lot better now. I better go get the meds too Lol.
