My baby is 15 years old and has been suffering from chronic constipation for months.  In and out of the vet's office every weekend because she goes days without going at home.  This has gone on for months. (Cisapride and Lactulose not working).  I would like to know if anyone knows of a good low residue canned food?  If it's megacolon or just chronic constipation that I can't control with medicine, I want to try change in food (recommended by the other vet in the practice I go to, unlike the other vet in the group who finally said you need to think about the possibility of surgery or the obvious).  So I went to the other one in the office and that's when he said the w/d Hills prescriptive canned food was too high in fiber and bulky.  To try a different diet lower in fiber.  Do any of you guys know of a good quality low fiber food or low residue food?

Signed,

Desperate in Florida!

Sounds to me like there is a deeper issue going on, rather than just constipation. Something is not syncing up right in her body that is causing this.
A 'low residue' food might temporarily fix the problem ,but it won't solve it.

I haven't dealt with chronic constipation personally, but I'm sure someone else here can give you advice. Until then, a new vet with new ideas may be in order.
