Hi!
I am new to this site :)
I am currently fostering 4 kittens, they are said to be 5 weeks old. I have had them for just over a week. The mother cat was here to begin with and they were all suckling fine, the owner of the mother cat took her away 2 days ago.
The kittens are all eating and toileting fine, playing, have had vet visits so wormed and flea-ed.
I was wondering how much weight is too much to be gaining? One kitten has gained 50g in one day and then 47g the next. It seems like an awful lot in comparison to the others who gain around 10ish. Should I be separating the larger kitten at meal times? Or is this ok and he will just be a chub kitten?

Kittens grow incredibly fast, don't worry.  Let them eat as much as they want.  But why did the woman take the mother away while she was still feeding her kittens?  They are still tiny babies and really would be much better off with her.  I do hope she has been spayed or will be very, very soon - she will probably come into call quite soon and get pregnant (again) if allowed out.

Thank you for that, i can stop worrying :).
She demanded her back when the kittens no longer needed her for survival. She thought seeing as they were eating/drinking and toileting that they no longer require the mother cat. Even though I know the longer they can be with mum the better, the owner did not see it this way. I did however get the owner to see the importance of spaying, and she is getting spayed today actually.

Will you be keeping the kittens, at least for the next few weeks? Kittens need the presence of their mom and siblings till they are around 10/11 weeks if they are to be socialised properly, it is not just a case of eating/drinking/toilet. In the absence of their mom you will have to take that rolem but playing with each other will help to teach them how to behave with other cats. Try very hard not to let them bite fingers or rough house too much, and let them explore a bit at a time. And if you can keep them together as mong as possible they will be better adjusted int he long run.

Thanks for the advice. I will be keeping them until 12 weeks. Which I heard is a good age to re-home.

They do need worming and vaccinating by 12 weeks.  In the UK it's now 13 weeks for kittens from a GCCF breeder as there are now 3 weeks between 1st & 2nd shots, and the kittens shouldn't go until a few days after the second one.

Hopefully they will go with a few days supply of food as well - a sudden change of food in a new home is a common cause of an upset tummy.

And as 'jennyranson' says, where are the cute photos?
