Yesterday my grandson heard my cats crying and he saw them on the neighbors porch in a coon trap.He went over and let them out and the neighbor told my grandson he was calling the police because he had no right to release them. When the law got here they told me my grandson could be arrested and fined. The cop said the neighbor had the right to trap the cats (lureing them with meat) and take them out and dump them or kill them whatever he wanted to do.This is so wrong. My heart is broken ,I have to try to find homes for my cats now rather then this idiot hurting them.I have some that I had for 10 years.I can't believe the law.

This is why I keep my cats inside or on the back porch.  The neighbors are good people, except for 2 households, and they are watched 24 hours a day by the rest of us.

Is there any way you can make your cats indoor only? If they aren't outside the neighbor can't do anything to them.
Are they microchipped or tattooed so you can prove they're your cats?
Where are you located? I know laws in some places do not protect cats, but I would be looking into it anyway. You may have just run into a cop who hates cats.

I have some that I had for 10 years.

Good luck rehoming a cat that is anywhere near that age.  Make them inside.  Most cats can convert fairly easy if stimulated enough.

You take a big chance when you let your cats leave your property and any number of things could happen to them. I'd either keep them inside or build a fenced in area in your yard to confine them to your property. Your cats have no right being on anyone else's property, and other people don't have to put up with cats on their property if they don't want to, and unfortunately, some people don't.
