Hi , I found a kitten on Craiglist that I would like to adopt. This is all the information I have. :they are around 6 weeks old, they are litter trained, still are nursing but are eating purina. I am concerned be the person doesn't seem to know exactly how old they are, I asked about if they have been dewormed and she replies, the mom doesn't have worms so the kittens don't either. Here is a picture of the kittens with mom
I know I will have to get her dewormed and on much better food. Do the kittens look old enough to rehome

thanks

Kittens should be 12 weeks before rehoming, there is far more to the weaning process than just eating solids

Those kittens look big for 6 weeks old, I'm not an expert but I would say 10 weeks or maybe alittle bit bigger. I believe kittens will feed off their mom until 16 weeks sometimes.

If she is an outdoor cat she probably has worms because they get them from eating frogs, mice, etc. They also get them from fleas, so if she is an indoor cat, but there are other animals in the house, she probably has worms.

Consult a vet once you get the kitten, they can take a poo poo sample and determine if the kitten does or not, but they may say just deworm regardless. I have never heard of deworming a cat that doesn't have worms harming them, but I maybe wrong, so call your vet and check with them.

It's always a good idea to treat for fleas, because like I said they can get worms from them and numerous other things! But all that will be discussed with your vet when you go for shots and spay/neuter.

Good luck with your journey with your new kittie!!

(I HATE THAT, I seriously deja vu'd about this -_- lol, because Ksylvester I remember reading your post...a couple days ago o3o)

anyway, depending on how big the momma is, those kittens look to be about 8-10 weeks old(because they look size wise as big as my cats kittens do compared to her), which if the person HAD to they could go at that age, though it is still a bit two young, which if they don't even know how old the kittens are, they are probably pretty desperate to get rid of them, but I would see if they couldn't hold onto the one you wanted for another week or two.

They do look a lot older then 6 weeks. Most kittens have worms so I would plan on a vet check for that right away. They are cute! Which one are you getting?

Lol!

I think that is the first time I ever posted about worms!

Well wait...there was that one post. But what I said is the same thing that was said in the thread too.

But what smitten4kittens said, which one are you getting!?

Flint. Thanks for the reply. Hyphens or not:nod: I agree the person is pretty clueless. according to them their "ragdoll" has papers but got out one night for some fun. The kitten is free so they arent trying to make money. I plan on vetting her right away for flea and worm treatment and will get her spayed when she is old enough. The owner said they atr pretty anxious to get rid of the kittens asap.

My concerrns are

1. Is she too young to be separated?. My first cat was found on the road and i had to bottle feed her.
2. She is eating Purina adult food. I will switch her to canned kitten food and royal canin hard food. I am wondering if I should bother to transition her of the Purina or just give her the better food right away?

Thanks. David

Kittens-can-be-weaned,at-8-weeks.Seems-like-they-should-be-able-to-give-you-a-estimated-date,when-they-were-born.Hard-to-tell-from-the-picture,but-their-size-against-the-mother,they-look,older-than-8-weeks.

If-they-are-eating,solid-food-that-is-a-good-sign,most-likely-they-are-old-enough.

Doesn't a cheapo wired USB keyboard work in those?  So long as you get a mac-compatible one?

Borrow one from a friend and see if it works!  Also, several of the Microsoft USB keyboards are Mac-compatible for example:

http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us/p/wired-keyboard-600/ANB-00001

(I'm sure you can find somewhere cheaper than MS to buy it from, this seems to be their cheapest mac-compatible keyboard)
