I haven't been here much the past couple of years.  In 2006 Dusty was diagnosed with CRF.  I was advised by the vet that this is generally fatal and she may live a few months or a few years.  I decided that I wasn't going to treat her with expensive and upsetting medicine, and I would allow her to eat her favorite foods.  A couple of years ago she got a really bad ear infection, and the vet had to put her out in order to treat her.  He also did a dental on her while she was under.  This whole event nearly killed her. She wasn't eating.  She lost so much weight, she was skin & bone.  Her hair matted (she is a long hair), and I tried combing out and cutting out the matts.  She spent most of her time outside (didn't want to stay inside).  I was fearful that I would find her dead in the bushes.  The vet even suggested I put her down, but hubby wouldn't hear of it.  At one time I remember that she was also anemic and the vet had suggested I give her some Vitamin B complex.  But I didn't know what kind, where to buy it, how much to give her, etc.

A few months ago I found some liquid Vitamin B complex, and decided to give it a try.  I put about 3-4 drops in her canned food and I also add a little water so it is easy for her to eat.  Well, it's a miracle!!  She is putting on weight.  Her coat is thick and not matted.  She now wants to come in at night and cuddle with me.  She's a new kitty, going strong on her 8th or 9th life!  It's now about 6 years since her CRF diagnosis, and she seems as healthy as she was at the age of 2.  She is now 10 and enjoying life.  She no longer leaves the backyard, which is a good thing.  I'm not able to make her an indoor only kitty, but she is safe in the yard.

I find it hard to credit that a cat diagnosed at a very young age with CRF survived for another 6 years with no treatment...  How was the diagnosis made?  Unless a cat has PKD then CRF at age 4 is very, very unlikely.

Well...whatever, it's good to hear that she's still around, and getting better!

What a great story about Dusty. I am glad all is well. Cat miracles do happen. Years ago, the first cat we had was diagnosed with heartworms. The vet was going to call the vet school he graduated from to learn best treatment options. He told me bring the cat back the next day for a consult and further tests. I cried all the way home. When I got home, I prayed and asked God to heal Betsy. The next day we went back to the vet. He came out from the back office scratching his head and he said I don't understand this because I know what I saw yesterday. Your cat's heartworms are gone. I told him about the prayer and he said well it worked. So I believe in Cat Miracles.

I don't know what to make of it either.  She was diagnosed through blood work.  She was at her worst about 2 years ago, when she got a horrid ear infection.  The vet put her under to treat her ears, and did a dental at the same time.  It took forever for her to get better, and there was even the suggestion that I should consider putting her down, which my husband would have no part of!  She was also anemic, and that's when the vet suggested I give her B Complex, which I didn't start until about 6 months ago.

All I know is that she is as healthy as she ever was prior to the CRF diagnosis.  I give her a few (3-4) drops of the B every day mixed in her wet food with adding a little water to keep her hydrated.  She is like the Benjamin Button of kitties!  Her appetite has improved, her coat is beautiful, her gums and nose are now a nice healthy pink color.

I made the decision when she was first diagnosed that I wasn't going to prolong her life or force nasty medicine down her.  I wanted whatever time she had to be quality time.  Now I only wish I had started the vitamin therapy sooner!  In a way, I'd like to take her back to the vet so he could see her miraculous recovery, but riding in the car is very stressful for her, and I hate to put her through that!
