Hi guys....my cat had 4 kittens a few months ago, all went went well and we fell in love with with one little man in particular so we kept him and rehomed the others. However....we just found out mycat is pregnant again! Im worried about how my 4 month old male will react to them. He's an EXTREMELY friendly cat and so loving and laid back but this isnt making me worry any less! Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much, Natalie xx

He will probably be fine, but two litters 6 months apart is a huge strain on the girl.  I hope you get her neutered either ASAP or when this litter are 8 weeks or so old, before she can get pregnant yet again.

And best get the lad neutered if you haven't already - he will be hitting puberty soon which is not a good mix with a cat with kittens.

What a shame she wasn't fixed after her litter and was allowed outdoor access before being spayed

If she's not far along get her spayed ASAP, she needn't have this second litter.

If you continue you may need to remove the male as older kittens will often nurse especially as the due date comes closer and that milk is needed for the new litter, it can also bring on contractions early.

Along with the male needing neutering ASAP, he shouldn't be introduced to the kittens until they are around 6-8 weeks. Kittens generally adjust quickly to having others around.

Agreed the male kitten needs to be kept completely separate until the new litter is in the 6-8 week range. I'm sure he will adjust fine to having them around as kittens are very adaptable but it's not good for the Mom or the new babies. He will try to nurse and may try to play with them when they are really little and can inadvertently hurt them.

If nothing else I would get him neutered ASAP. Once he reaches sexual maturity he will become a lot more aggressive with the new litter. And, Queens can go back into heat shortly after giving birth. I'm sure the last thing you want is her getting pregnant for a 3rd time while she's still nursing- and by her son no less!

If she's still early I would also advise having her spayed now as another litter this soon is extremely hard on her body and can lead to a host of complications. But if not start working on ways to keep the two completely separate for the next few months.

Good luck!

I wouldn't go as far as keeping them completely separate unless the female wants that - she might still adore him.  But once she has the new kittens I would be very careful about letting him in to start with and only do it when I was there.  She might want to see him, she might try to kill him, he might attack the kittens.  I wouldn't leave him alone with her and the kittens for several weeks.

And to emphasise - he should be neutered ASAP.
