I swear that I have the best cats! I decided I was going to put up a tree this year. I bought a 7 1/2 foot fake pre-lit pine tree. I put it up yesterday afternoon, with just the lights. I haven't put any ornaments on it yet. I wanted give it a few days and see how my cats reacted to a tree since none of them have ever seen one. I had visions of it being climbed all over, and cats leaping into and out of it from various furniture.

But so far so good! I woke up this morning with the tree still standing and no branches seem to have been disturbed. And I came home to find the tree in the same condition.

Now granted, there aren't any shiny dangling things yet, so maybe that will be different.  But they don't seem to be concerned with just the lit tree.

Oh man, years ago my husband came home with a kitten he found in the street. He ended up climbing our 9 foot live Christmas tree and it came crashing to the ground breaking numerous decorations and ornaments. What a mess. And my husband was out of town on a business trip when it happened. Let me tell you that tree was really heavy and hard to get back up right on my own.

Now we have a fake tree and I am always watching to make sure they don't crew the branches as they have a lead warning. sigh.

LMAO!!!  Clinging for dear life!!  Can  I post that on my facebook page?

Sure.  Aberdeen, my Christmas angel.  She is not clinging...she is claiming.  I have another from when she was a year younger.  Any of the other kittens who would venture to climb in the tree were promptly swatted down.

That's great!!

Flash and sooty hadn't seen a tree since they were kittens so I was a bit wary so tree went up without decorations, and they were fine and now its half done and has flashy lights on and they haven't bothered!

Yey for good kitties

Best of luck with that.  I couldn't keep the four cats OR the 2 dogs out of mine last year.  I've given up the battle of the animals vs the Christmas tree.  Not doing it this year.  Swiffer was the absolute WORST of them all.  For whatever reason, she was fascinated with the tree topper and tried every single, possible way to get to it.  Including climbing on top of a lamp.  Nope.  Not gonna do it this year.

My tree has been up for a week now, but except for a sniff test when I put it up, the girls are not interested. Maybe because they are older.

OMG I love Aberdeen claiming that tree!

Our cats are not interested in our artificial tree - but we have a new one this year so who knows. Tophel tends to gets into all kinds of trouble - things I've never had cats do. I'm leaving off the garland, no way can we have tinsel. I caught him chomping on a ribbon on a present I'd wrapped... we might have to go ribbonless this year, we'll see.

We got a new kitten last year,  Our cat Kabuki, never bothered the tree, But Ninjetta, loves the tree. We ended up not puting on any decorations, She thought it was the best place to take a nap.  This year I hope she is over it, so we can decorate it.
