I got a feral that comes and eat the cats food when they are done
Awww poor thing. You should find a local TNR group and try to get that spayed/neutered, or you'll have kittens to feed too soon. They would probably need more than leftover food too.

Yes, please do. I'd love to hear the story of your barn cats. I really liked the little cat house you made for them.

Congratulations on your Friend of Ferals badge.

DH and I have taken care of several feral cats and kittens over the years.  Redman, a feral kitten who was under the hood of a car when it was cranked.  He was stunned, which was why DH and his friend were able to catch him.  DH took him to the vet for minor injuries and his baby shots, and he tamed up surprisingly quickly.  He became an indoor/outdoor cat.  He liked my singing.  Then there was Fuzzy, who was also with us for many years.   DH could pick him up, eventually, (as DH is a cat whisperer).  I was only rarely allowed to touch the very tip of his nose.  And poor Moses, who was an elderly cat.  I am not sure if he was a stray or a feral. For a while, he was a ghost in our yard, someone we would catch a fleeting glimpse of as he ran when we drove up.  We started leaving food out for him.  Soon enough, he warmed up to DH.  We took him to the vet for his neuter and to have his some of his teeth pulled.   Moses left us shortly after recovering from surgery.  We do not regret having him neutered or having the dental work done; both were necessary and the vet said his teeth were causing him a great deal of pain.  I like to think he is still out there somewhere.  Occasionally, we see a cat that looks just like him.  DH will call "Moses"...but he always runs...

I had a couple of feral cats like your Moses. They basically passed through our yard for a short while. We trapped them and had them neutered and they left shortly afterwards. My rule is: if you go through our property, you get neutered. So far, applied only to cats.

Badge awarded, of course!

My thoughts exactly. I caught a couple of roaming strays while I was doing TNR with the colony cats. If you're in my trap, your reproductive organs are mine.

When she was a kitten mama cat was just passing through when i saw her. I got her to trust me by feeding her a hotdog and she let me hold her and she seems to enjoyed it so i figure she must been socialized maybe someone drop her off? She got pregnant, had 4 i kept two Gray and Tucker and gave two away to a friend where they hunt mice. She got pregnant again had 8 one died around 4 weeks. I found homes for three of them, i know two is doing great but the third one i havent got any updates, last time we talk he was hiding, acting scared, he wasnt eating although if i remembered right she did say he nibble a little so i offered suggestions. I kept the remaining 4 but still looking for homes for two

A few days before mama cat came, a gray male kitten stayed for few days before disappearing. I think they came from the same litter because they looked the same age but that don't mean anything. But he also seem to been socialized which is why i think they from the same litter.

Calling "Here kitty, kitty!"
My neighbor feeds a colony of ferel cats. I see a few of them pass by sometimes but there is one in particular that comes to my yard all week, a small adult male who is white with grey patches. I named him Rascel. He loves to watch me work in the yard from the edge of the woods. For a while I would sit outside and let him eat with me watching. Now he has started letting me pet him. He loves to rub all over me and sometimes follow me around the yard. Hopefully he will be fixed when I believe he his ready. Even was I was very young I would love to help my family take care of strays and take them to a place where they could find a home.

Sounds like you're doing a good job with Rascal. I hope you get him fixed real soon! Badge awarded!

Good for you! Rascal sounds like he'd be happy hanging out with you outdoors, so, if he's over four months old, perhaps don't wait to fix him. Early spay/neuter has several benefits, including easier recovery. :)

Hey :)

I'm pretty new to trapping ferals but I have loved them for a few years now & I think they're just beautiful and amazing!

My Feral Kitty Roster:

Penney (the first mother)

Edie (Penney's daughter)

Echo (Penney's son)

Willow (Penney's daughter, caught and adopted by a friend - she recently passed away from an illness, so sad!!)

Sephora (Penney's daughter from a more recent litter)

- Nameless (to be named soon, Sephora's kitten)

- Darby (Sephora's kitten)

- Oliver (Sephora's kitten)

- Socks (Sephora's kitten)

- Yoda (Sephora's kitten)

- Cheetah aka Safari (Sephora's kitten)

- Fluffy (Sephora's kitten)

Gunner (Spehora's mate, father of kittens)

Ash (Penney's son, Sephora's full brother)

(one unnamed female, sister of Sephora)

(one unnamed male, brother of Sephora)

August 2014: Captured Edie at 4 months old and brought her home.  Captured Echo one week later and brought him home too.  They were meant to be people cats, they acclimated very quickly and they are now in charge of this household haha!  They just turned one year old last month and they're happy, healthy, amazing kittys!

2014-2015: Always trying to catch or trap Penney.  She's way too smart!  She had another litter in August 2014 and the kittens were in an unreachable area, by the time they came out from their nest they were very mobile and hard to catch.

March 2015: Trapped Gunner, took him to the shelter for TNR and he's living out his non-kitten-making life :)

April 2015: Sephora had kittens 6 weeks ago.  I finally located them and was able to extract them from their VERY unsafe and trash filled home.  I attempted to capture Sephora with a drop trap using kittens as bait but she did not fall for it.  One day later I trapped her in a regular trap by using tuna and also a hand towel that her kittens slept on the previous night.  I brought Sephora to where the kittens are being fostered at my place of business and she had a bit of a meltdown but settled in after not too long.  Everyone went to the vet yesterday.  The kittens are 6 weeks old and healthy, Sephora's snap test came back negative.  The vet couldn't handle her and we couldn't catch her after he let her out of the carrier (I told him she was feral and he just let her out!!) so he suggested I just have her spayed.  We caught her in a net and he gave her anesthesia, I stayed until she fell asleep.  Surprisingly, she doesn't hate me today!  I thought she wouldn't trust me; we had made huge progress over the 5 days I had her before going to the vet and she still trusts me!  the full story including photos are in this thread (http://www.thecatsite.com/t/295738/help-advice-for-my-trapping-dilemma), she's a princess now and she's just soaking up every bit of love she can get!  I am going to adopt her and she's going to come live with Edie and Echo, her older siblings, in a couple weeks.

Today: Saw Penney for the first time in a week, so is SO pregnant.  I have been setting traps every day and hoping to catch her before she has her litter!  I didn't get her today but I did get Ash, her beautiful siamese/tabby son from the same litter as Sephora.  He's going to be neutered tomorrow and I will TNR him :)

Kitten Update:  Sephora's 7 kittens are getting very active and playful!  3 of the 7 are spoken for yay!  I am only adopting kittens out to people I know who I know will give them great lives!  Nameless, Yoda, & Cheetah are spoken for....4 to go!

I absolutely love my little feral kitty colony and was told I should post here :) <3  Thanks for reading!!

Wonderful,  what you are doing for these cats.  I have tended ferals for years and been through everything you are talking about.  I love my ferals just as I do my housecats.  They get the same food, vet care as  I give the housecats.  As we speak, I only have one I can't handle.   This is Josie.  I did trap her and had her spayed after she gave me 3 litters of kittens.  Still hoping I can make a pet of Josie.  Photo is of
Josie and her kitten. He's J.C. for Josie's Child.
