How ironic that i ask a heath issue question, after asking about health insurance! After i posted about health insurance, i went out and came back home. And my sister told me my cat went into her room and made a hacking sound and she spit up. She said it looked clear like saliva, but that it had "black specks" in it. She picked it up before i got home!

She said she was worried the cat would lick it up again. Now im concerned cause i have read, that vomiting anything black is bad. But at the same time, my sis has awful eye vision and could have just as easily been brown. Which is the color of her snacks. I give her temptations cat treats. They are brown in color. Besides that she eats an all wet diet.

Now im nervous. Am i overreacting?

I have had her since march, and she does sometimes spit up a hair ball. but its usually just a brown matter with bits of hair. i have never seen anything with black in it, she vomits ever couple of months. i was hoping that since shes been on all wet for a couple of months now that the hair balls would ease. i am also trying to comb her more. She has been shedding a lot lately.

Am i overreacting, or should i take her to the vet? if i do what kind of tests will they do on her?

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
If he's acting normal in all other ways, and still has his appetite at the next meal, I wouldn't worry about it, and assume it was small bits of undigested treats.

Vomit with blood in it looks like coffee grounds, and that is something to worry about, but there are usually other indications kitty doesn't feel well: not as active, maybe not grooming after a meal, not having a normal appetite....

:hugs: :vibes: :vibes: :vibes: :vibes:

she ate her meal after after 1-2 hours of throwing up, and shes been grooming. i play with her each night, so i'll see if she seems less energetic once i do.

She seems fine though, she was just in my closet knocking down all my books.

I asked my sister to leave her vomit the next time, so i can look at it.  thanks for responding, i feel much better!  i will keep an eye on her though just in case.

Keep an eye on her but if everything seems normal, it is probably as LDG said. Mine will vomit for no reason now and then and it's usually nothing to worry about.
