My cat has been having some "coughing" like episodes since the beginning of the month.  Initially I just took a video and showed it to the vet and she thought it was all in his head because she said his lungs sounded fine and by watching the video she said it didn't sound like a hairball because after he "coughed" he would swallow.  Well on 11/15, he was very dull and didnt really want to eat, so I took him in and they did chest rads and she said all looked clear expect for MAYBE a very very mild case of bronchitis.  She sent me home with Amoxicillin drops in case it was some kind of infection starting.  Well his coughing symptoms have remained the same (attitude back to normal; no longer dull) and he started sneezing on the 18th (white discharge comes from his left nostral when he sneezes) which he had not done prior to this date.  He has had 1 whole week of the Amoxicillin and I dont feel like it is doing anything.  His left eye is also teary (clear).  At times he also sounds a little congested while breathing/purring.  I called the vet this morning and left a message for her to see if we could try another medicine.  Im trying to get the video uploaded now, but what do you think?

This sounds like a good idea.  When we adopted our Lucy the shelter had tried amoxicillin for her URI.  The vet didn't seem surprised that it didn't work and thought the natural progression would be to try doxycycline next.  That did the trick.  (Lucy's chest x-rays also showed that there might be a slight bit of bronchitis going on.)

Here is a video of my cat Nick doing his "coughing" episode.  Once again, this has not gotten better with being on the Amoxicillin drops and he now is sneezing with white discharge coming from his nose.

Ok, just picked up the new meds for Nick.  Azithromycin is what he has now.  Im supposed to let them know if there is no improvement in 5 days.  Has anyone had experience with this drug?  Thanks!

Ooooh, that's the good stuff!!  It was what my vet was going to try next if Lucy didn't respond to the doxy.  She says it kills just about anything.  (I've read the same thing....it kills things like Bartonella that others don't kill.)

Well that is reassuring!  My other cat Diesel has Hypercalcemia and is on Pred daily (making his immune system not 100%) and I dont want Diesel to get sick if it's something that can be passed between them.  Hopefully this med does the trick!!
