My daughter gave me my now kitten Thunder who is 7 months old. I want to know if she was responsible to spay her or is it mine now ?

Also my Bella who is 3yrs old is always in heat. Since both of them are indoor cats should we spay them ? I don't want and can't afford more kittens.

As the new owner it's up to you to spay her

Spaying isn't just about kittens, it's very unhealthy to cycle in and out of heat your older girl is at great risk of pyometra which can be deadly if not caught quickly.
There are also cancer risks so please spay both ASAP

Whoever has the cats is responsible for spaying them. I suppose you could ask your daughter to pay for it if you want to try (I wouldn't expect much, though) but if it's your cat now it's your responsibility. And, yes, they both need to be spayed soon but especially have the older cat spayed ASAP, for her health.

Yes on all points.  I want to add. Bella 3 years is always in heat, you tell.  So it is not "only" long term dangers, but also the very realistic, being "always" in heat do takes forces out of her. Here and now.

I hope she does copy with this, but believe me, it is hard life for her now.

I agree with Willowy, you CAN try and ask you dau for help with spaying. As an extra gift you ask for, not as a demand.

The responsibility is sole yours.

Good luck!

Please spay both of them ASAP.

Firstly if one of them gets out while calling they will get pregnant.

Secondly you will prevent either of them getting pyometra (very dangerous infection of the uterus) and greatly reduce the risk of breast cancer for the younger cat.

Unfortunately the more calls a cat has without being mated the greater her risk of breast cancer, so your older cat will always be at much more risk than the younger.

Getting a cat spayed is far cheaper than raising an unplanned litter, and far far cheaper than treatment for pyometra or breast cancer.

Amen to that!

I didn't get my cat fixed before she got pregnant, and I've spent far more with her having kittens then it would have cost me to spay her!

Hi there and welcome to you and both your cats! Please post some pictures of them soon, we would love to see them. And you have certainly taken the right decision - they and you will be much happier.

I just wanted to add my strong opinion about the importance of spaying the girls, you have made the right decision!!

Nobody here will get mad that you haven't spayed her sooner, many people are unaware of just how important it really is, not to mention many people struggle financially as well, and organizations/programs for help are few and far between.

If it is a money problem try contacting a rescue organization. We help the public with scheduling their cats into our spay/neuter runs and it only costs them what it costs us, $25.00 males, $35.00 females.

People are much more eager at this cost and it's a win-win situation for us, since it would likely be us who get the unwanted litters of kittens!!
