I have just come from the vet office and need some differing advice on joint care food. My cat has been diagnosed with knee and hip arthrititis issues and they suggested Royal Canin/Medi-Cal Mobility cat food. I bought a small bag, but I had remembered seeing multiple people here discussing that they do not like vet-office brand food.

I 100% agree that my cat needs joint support food, I just want to ensure that he is getting the best that I can afford.

Anyone have experience with either Hill's J/D or Medi-Cal Mobility foods?

I'm not familiar with joint support foods.

My cat Flowerbelle has arthritis in her hips - her ball joints are almost completely gone. But she also has high blood pressure, and likely has early stage asthma. So many of the typical treatments - Hyaluronic acid, Dasuquin or Cosequin, are contra-indicated for her. Tumeric, which is also very anti-inflammatory and seems to work miracles in kitties with arthritis, is also contra-indicated. I found research indicating that omega 3 supplement in the form of salmon or krill oil could benefit her. I started her on salmon oil, and didn't see a big change. I switched to krill oil, and within 2-3 days, there was a very noticeable difference in her jumping/mobility. She's only 9, but running around and playing like a kitten again.

She weighs about 7 pounds. If your kitty weighs up to 15 pounds, the dose is the same: 500mg of krill oil. I don't know if the brand I use is available there, but I buy from Amazon the NOW Neptune Krill oil in the softgel. I highly recommend this for joint health/support. If the NOW brand isn't available, some type of Neptune Krill Oil will be - just make sure it has no additives that aren't good for kitty.
