Hello

My cat who's a healthy 4 year old castrated 10 lb male loves food to the point where he eats with no limitation until he vomits. (He only eats dry food, doesn't like wet food unless its human food haha)

So I tried to monitor his food intake, started 3 meals a day, 1/4 cup each portion. Fail.

Now for almost a week I went down to 2 meals a day, 1/4 cup each portion. With cat snack once a day.

Help.

Edit: I want to mention that he loves his snack and won't let me go until he eats it, even if he just had his meal.  He always comes to me and drags me to his snack box to give him. Another point is that he won't sleep until he eats.  Just now he was calling me refusing to sleep or play or cuddle he just comes and go I know he want food so I just gave him less than 7 pieces of snack and he vomited.  Almost every night he is like that. He never sleeps hungry (he is full actually).

You are on the right track with the timed feedings and controlled portions.

1/4 cup is still a lot for one meal IMO.

I'd try a smaller amount, more frequently.

If that doesn't work, a different food is in order - he might have an allergy

to something in his current kibble.

It sounds to me like the food he is eating is not satisfying him. A lot of dry foods are just filler and corn, very little meat protein, which is what a cat needs to thrive and feel satisfied. If you tell us what you are feeding we may be able to help you change his diet. And improved diet not only will make him healthier, he will feel better in every way, his behavior will improve also.

Regurgitating is not normal or healthy, and coming from one who does have a cat with a regurgitation problem, I can tell you there is hope, but it takes work and a extreme diet change, and work. But it is totally worth it. :)

That's not possible, minimum is 1/4 cup in my dispenser.

No he only vomits when he over eats.  I watched him for a couple of days.

He can't control his love of food.
Is he still vomiting or what? Why is it a "fail"? What brand of food do you give him?
Yes, specially if he plays outside for a couple of hours or naps, his food is left un touch so as soon as he comes he eats like crazy and after a couple of mins he vomits.

My vet said its a personal preference for cats some like both some don't and they're all the same.

Ok, I hope I get help regarding this issue.  I feed him the following:
Friskies[emoji]174[/emoji] Dry Cat Food (all flavors he tends to get bored and not eat so I change every now and then)

http://www.friskies.com/Cat-Food/Dry-Cat-Food

Purina[emoji]174[/emoji] Cat Chow[emoji]174[/emoji]

www.purina.com/products/purina-cat-chow

WHISKAS[emoji]174[/emoji] For Kittens (is mixed with one of the above) My vet recommended adding it because its more nutritious.

Snacks:

*Milk/ Yogurt (not daily he sometimes doesn't want them)

*Chicken/Meat/Fish from my kitchen when smells me cooking he refuses to move so I give him a little and immediately remove a small portion from his food so he doesn't eat any more.

*whiskas temptations (all kinds nut feed him one kind a day only)

Your vet said all cat foods are the same? Your vet is very mistaken. The foods you are feeding are full of junk. In that way, true, they are all the same. There is very little nutrition in any of them that a cat can use. They are carbs and corn.

However, there are much much better diets out there, and once your cats are on a more species appropriate diet, you will be amazed at the difference.

I am not judging you, until you know better it is not your fault that you are feeding your cat this awful food. You didn't know! But now that you are here, you can educate yourself on feline nutrition, and they you will understand why your cat is regurgitating, and acting hungry all the time.

Cats are obligate carnivores. What this means is they need meat to thrive. Read the labels on the bags of food you have been feeding, and you will begin to understand why your cat is having all this trouble.

It really really does matter, what they eat. Nutrition, after all, is the basis of all health.

You can help your kitty, but you will have to be willing to put in some time, and work, learn some new things, and make some changes in the way you feed your cats. We can help. :)

Most cats will over eat Friskies have you tried a different brand? and have you try putting out wet instead of treats wen he says he is hungry? maybe if you start doing that he might be more satisfyed youcould mix your amount of treats in the wet first sees if he eats it as time goes on lower the treat amount until its 100% wet ,I know how you feel on a cat that is picky

Are you feeding him the dry food because of convenience or cost? There are a lot of dry food options out there, though really, if you can manage it from your lifestyle and budget standpoint, canned food only will be better for him: http://www.catinfo.org

Especially if you mix a little water into canned food, it slows down the wolfing, and there are many more meat-based options to choose from.

l agree wholeheartedly with this point.

l think most of us here started out at the point you're at now, and came here looking for alternatives, just as you are doing now.

l used to feed my cats lams dry!! l thought it was good food - until l learned better.

lt was not normal for my cats to be vomiting every other day, nor was it normal for them to behave as if they were starving when they were being overfed. They were crying out for better, more appropriate nutrition rather than more food.

There is a vast amount of knowledge on this site, l'm glad you found us. Welcome

It could be the corn in the friskies making him throw up.....my boy had trouble digesting his kibble until after multiple brands I tried a corn-free brand. There are many out there, though you would have to leave the grocery store to get them. Grocery store kibbles are pretty much ALL corn based :(. I use wholesome blend for my boy. Lifestyles is oven-baked and corn free. So is Holistic Blend....grain-free and high in meat-based protein. all are about 20bucks a bag which for a kibble only cat will last about 3weeks to a month.

I've also found that, besides corn, artificial colors make a lot of cats throw up. So if price is a big concern, there are cheaper foods with no artificial colors, not too hard to find.

I'll also mention that my cousin has a kitty who used to throw up all the time, and she switched him to all canned food and now he hardly ever throws up. I'm sure it would be possible to transition him to canned food if you're willing to take the time.

My other vet said "cat food+water=healthy cat"

Yes, I have tried "Meow Mix" and "Royal Canin"

Yes ever since he was a kitten, he never ate his wet food"

None, I feed him because its what he eats, he doesn't like his wet food and we don't have much of an option for dry food.

Even sometimes I boil chicken breast and give him, but he refuses to eat it and goes for his dry food.

I'd rather give him from my own food and cook for him but he doesn't eat it everytime I do it.

I will search for corn free though.

If you have access to supermarket food, try a small can of Fancy Feast chicken classic. It has no grain - though it does have coloring. Even most kibble addicts like Fancy Feast canned food.

that's right, Matt took well to FF and he's a total kibble addict. I have him mostly wet now, but he still isn't happy without some kibble. He was introduced to wet food through fancy feast classics and Friskies chef's dinner flavour(neither of which bother his sensitive tummy) He can't touch Whiskas wet or Special kitty though as the first comes back up right away and the second makes him gassy
