This has been a confused issue for a long time, because By Nature had an incorrect ingredient list on their website, so, in turn, all on-line retailers also have an incorrect ingredient list.

However, the LABELS have never had carrageenan listed. I have been in contact with By Nature over this for some time.

I am happy to report that the ingredient list on the website has been updated. I advised my CSR contact to inform the people in charge of such things that they should contact on-line retailers to change their information too, since so many people are now desperately looking for carrageenan free canned foods.

By Nature Organics does not contain carrageenan! :banana1:

Sadly, it does contain menadione - bisulfate, but it is the last ingredient listed and I have had to make my peace with it, because I am determined to keep the carrageean out of the cats.

My cats when eating foods with carrageenan:

Queen Eva would get diarrhea

Mazy cat would not only regurgitate, but continue to vomit for several minutes after all food was expelled from her stomach.

Jennie, I thought, was not having trouble with it, so I have continued to feed her the remaining foods I have purchased, that have carrageenan, until they are used up. However, I feed those foods only once or twice a week now (once they are gone, I will not be replacing them), and now I am discovering the difference. When Jennie eats foods with carrageenan, she scoots her bottom. When she doesn't have any carrageenan, the scooting stops.

** My cats eat both canned and raw.

They've also updated the calorie information. That's great of course but the new values are a lot higher than what was posted before. I emailed them a couple of months ago questioning the calories information because in some cases it didn't make sense given the guaranteed analysis and they insisted the posted values were correct.

I hope they are dedicated to providing accurate information now. Their products are pretty good.

Good & interesting information.
Good to know. Angel eats raw (Bravo Pattie's) & some by nature, or Before the Grain as well.

Good catch, I missed that. I, too, always knew the calorie info had to be wrong, because, if it was correct Mazy was only eating 95 calories a day (when she was eating this food only)

Note, they have changed the size of their cans. Now selling 5.5 ounce cans in 24 can cases as opposed to 6 ounce cans in 12 can cases.

Before Grain is one of the foods Jennie eats, that is being phased out because of the carrageenan. It's too bad, because she does really well on that food, but I don't want her having the carrageenan.

Yeah, I saw that the cans are now 5.5 oz. I had actually forgotten they used to be 6 oz.

Well I benefited from the change over, because the on line store I buy from ran a clearance sale. I bought 12 cases of the 6 ounce cans for $9.49 a case (13 cents an ounce!)

The price has actually gone down with the change in size. I was paying on average 30 cents an ounce, with the new sizes, the price currently is about 27 cents an ounce. That is subject to change of course, and since I am stocked up, by the time I need it again, I expect it will be higher :lol3:

I'm not real familiar w/ what exactly that is. I know it must be bad, but what is it? Maybe Angel shouldn't have it either. He has had his share of issues.

We love the By Nature 95% line, but the labeling has always confused me. The 6oz. cans were 120 calories and now the 5.5 are 204 for the Chicken, per their website.

Here is a good, recent, discussion on carrageenan and why we don't like it. :)

I guess someone is finally working on getting the website up to date and accurate, thank goodness. I used to like the 95% too, and it was a good price for a good food, but since I stopped feeding foods with carrageenan, I won't be buying it any more.
