Blue has been on Methimazole for about 2 years now and has done well...on and off.  We have had some crazy medication issues, but everything seems to be regulated now.  However, over the last few days, Blue has started vomiting (pretty much the entire meal) right after he eats.  He is very hungry and will follow me around the house meowing for more food...but the minute I give in a feed him more, he vomits.  I have tried switching foods (from pate or chunks...he can only eat wet food because he has hardly any teeth) and that didn't work.  I have tried feeding him a can of the upset stomach food I had here from another episode with one of my other cats and he won't touch it.  He has a very picky eater anyway.  Obviously I need to contact the vet tomorrow, but I am not sure they can get us in before Friday due to the holidays and how busy they stay.  Since Blue is still drinking and acting normal, I don't think this is immediately life threatening, but I sure could use some good advice on what to do this evening.  Should I not give him his evening meal even though he is begging for it?  It breaks my heart to hear him cry.  :(

I know what you are going through, let me see if I can give you some suggestions. Have you tried giving him very small amounts and spacing them out? If he is still not keeping it down than...Most importantly, when he vomits he losses fluid and can become dehydrated quickly. It is better to not keep trying and having him continue to vomit. Make sure to keep him drinking. He could go down hill faster than you might think. I would take him in ASAP. My vet always has openings for their currant patients, even if you have to go in and wait. I definitely would not let it go until after the holiday. You may also try some broth, just plain chicken broth, ( not canned or boxed, they all have onions) See if he keeps that down, at least he is also getting some nutrients w/fluid.

Your poor baby!  A few days of not being able to hold down food warrants a vet visit ASAP, so I would think your vet will squeeze you in even if they're booked.

I wonder if Blue is having a reaction to his thyroid med.  The tablets can cause GI distress.  My cat was recently diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and my vet prescribed a transdermal ear gel rather than the tabs to avoid any tummy problems.   It's only been a few weeks, but he's been doing great with the gel so far.

Blue could be suffering from hairballs.  Sometimes they can become impacted, causing obstruction and consequently, vomiting.  It's good that he's still drinking since repeated vomiting can cause dehydration.

You can try hand feeding him small bits of food, slowly and in very small quantities, just a few bites at a time.  If he holds it down, feed some more several minutes later.

If your regular vet won't see Blue (which would be surprising), take him to another vet.  Since he's had this problem for a few days already, you don't want to have to wait any longer.

Hope Blue feels better soon.  Please let us know how he's doing.
