Is it odd for a kitty to stop eating food that she has eaten for months? We have been feeding our kitty fancy feast classics pât. All of a sudden she as stopped eating the beef and ocean whitefish/tuna. Is this normal? She won't eat the turkey and giblets either. Worried.

I've got some friskier poultry platter and a couple of Wiskas to try.

Any thoughts? Ideas? Suggestions?

Cats sometimes do go through periods of pickiness. And if they eat the same thing for a long time they can get sick of it, just like people. Although it does sound like you keep a decent rotation of flavors. But it can also sometimes be a bad batch of food. . .i kinda doubt it would affect several different flavors, though.

For now I guess just try the new foods, you'll know soon enough if something's wrong with her appetite. After a few weeks you can see if she'll eat the old foods, and if she still won't I'd suspect something is wrong with the food.

I'm not worried about something being wrong with her at ths point, she will eat other flavors like liver/chicken, beef/chicken. I think she doesn't like the smell of some and I might have done overkill with the beef. I'll keep trying to rotate them.

I'm going to try blue buffalo. Any other brands you would suggest?

I've been doing the pâté type. I've heard it is better. Is that true?

My husband keeps saying to give her dry fod but I know in my heart once I go to dry,I'll ever get her back on wet.

Not necessarily bad, as in something wrong with it, but the supplier or quality of certain ingredients could have changed. Some cats are really sensitive to things like that.

I keep a record of batches of food, making a note when I start a new batch (going by code numbers and expire dates stamped on the cans) The bottom of the can usually has that information.

Adding in a new other brands is always a good idea, anyway. :)

However if she continues to refuse all food, a vet visit is in order. Cats can't go more than a couple of days without food before the organs begin to shut down.

She is eating.  If she wasn't eating, I would have already had her at the vet.

She just won't touch any of the "seafood" type of canned cat food.  Maybe we gave her too much?  Or she didn't feel well off of one kind and now associates the smell of "seafood" to not feeling good.

As long as she is eating, that is good.

I envy you because your cat won't touch seafood flavors anymore. I have one that is addicted to the seafood wet food and having a tough time breaking her. Supposedly, fish is not good for cats over the long haul for a number of reasons including allergens, toxins, and high phosphorus. And it is highly addictive. If you decide to grant her wish of no more seafood, check the ingredients as many poultry flavors have fish - sometimes as the main ingredient.

It is common for cats to change their minds about what food they like. I wouldn't be worried about it. It's better to feed her less fish anyway.
I think your decision to try Blue is a good one. It is much higher quality than Friskies or Whiskas. Some other brands my cats like and do well on are : EVO chicken and turkey, Nature's variety instinct, Innova, Halo, Merrick's cowboy cookout, and Wellness. I wouldn't feed her dry either, wet is much healthier for a cat. Mesha is beautiful ! How old is she?
