Hi there, I'm new here :)

Anyway, Since Friday there has been this wild cat roaming around my house and the land around my house. I can see it has no owner, and my best friend is willing to keep him. We have tried catching this cat but he is quite clever, he won't fall for anything.

Every night this cat comes round our backyard and we feed him things like chicken, sausages, and sardines. He eats what we give him and I was wondering if maybe we could stuff a little sleeping pill into a sausage or something?

If this won't work, any other ideas? He sleeps under a shed near my house, and I wonder if this  will be enough for winter?

Thanks ;)

I wouldn't give him any pills unless a vet recommended it. He won't go in a cage even for food? Maybe if you skipped a meal he might. There are people on this site who trap and rescue a lot of cats and I'm sure they will have advice for you soon. Good luck

Do *NOT* give the cat a sleeping pill! Not only would it kill him if the dose was wrong, but if he decided not to stay near by, he could collapse under a bush or on the road. Not a good idea!

What you can do however is buy or borrow a live animal trap and put his food in there. Then you will be able to safely bring him inside.

It should be OK. Their main enemy is hunger, not necessary lack of a warm den. With enough good food he should make it.  Otherwise you can surely make/buy him a better isolated shelter?

If having him as your outside kitty is an option for you.

As the others said, a humane trap is the standard solution in such cases.   If he is a tricky one, there are a lot of threads here where folks give tips on good baits  (smelly, irrestsible food).

You can also rig up a drop trap.  More difficult as you must watch it yourself, but works better with some super trickies, who knows what human traps are,

Welcome to our Forums!

Good luck!

Hello,

First instead of giving the cat meat scrapes, leave a dish of cat food, and one dish for clean fresh water. does this every day if possiable.its more healthy for the cat.

I have caught a stray. I whistle for him, then i put out a "can" of cat food ( into a dish of course) she smells the food and will come. i sit and watch her eat. and Slowly" she will let me sit closer..

This takes Time.. after the can of food is gone, i still leave dry cat food & fresh water out. The cat will learn to depend on you and the food. while it is eating I talk softly to the cat.

When i do move closer i do it very slowly and just a little. and i don't look at the cat. sometime its best to just let them get used to

you.

When i finally could pick the cat up, she did kind of bit my arm, so ear long sleeve wool shirt. when i said shhhhhh very softly

it did make her settle down.. she now is in the house and sleeps on my bed...

it was a very long processes the reward is worth it.
