Hey Guys,

I have a 13 year old female cat who recently got sick, vomiting foamy white mucus type vomit. She wasnt really drinking but was eating a small amount of wet food. Since she wasnt really drinking and quite lethargic (not like her at all) I took her to the vet, they ran bloodwork to find her Kidney Values were 139 (apparently quite high), they asked me to bring her back and they hospitalized her for a few days and kept her on IV fluids, ran another blood test and she was fine so they released her. The vet gave me some k/d and wants to check her in two weeks.

But as of yesterday she is not drinking or eating anything. I did make the mistake of giving her a tiny piece of chicken she ate it like she was starving, but then immeadiately the foamy vomit started again...6 or 7 times it seemed like it was almost choking her, like it was bubbling up. She also seems to have a stopped up nose (whistling) and her breathing is a bit labored it seems because of that. Her nose is cracked and super dry and shes almost acting like she has a sore tongue or throat shes sat at the water bowl looking at it, sticks her tongue in and then crouches away and acts like she is about to vomit and then lays down. She is usually super vocal, she's barely meowing at all and when she does is sounds congested and phlegmy.

I tried a 1/4 pepcid ac this morning, but i dont know what else to do. Should i take her back to the same vet? try a different one? I just want to help her =( I've already shelled out about 500 for the hospitalization, special food, etc however I am not sure if maybe its just some nasty cold or what...any advice/help/ideas would be appreciated!

I'm sorry your beloved kitty is so ill. This should be considered an emergency situation, do please get her to a vet right away.

The throwing up white foamy stuff is NOT evidence of a cold.  That is usually evidence of over acidity in the stomach (from personal experience with a kidney cat)  At this point it sounds like she is very dehydrated.  Has she eaten or drank much since she's been home from the hospital.  It's possible she picked up a URI while in the hospital, but I fear that is not the main issue here.

Totally agree with Otto that she needs to be seen again, immediately.  As to which Vet to see, I think that depends on your confidence in your current Vet...how your cat was when she first came home, etc.

Please keep us posted on what's going on.

TI took her back to the same vet office, different vet. Turns out her lungs were filled with fluid ( possibly blood) and her bloodcount had dropped to 13. Vet suspected internal bleeding and found tumors....ironically her kidney values were good. Unfortunately we had her put to sleep. We just 3 weeks ago pur our oldest cat (23- kidney failure to sleep). We have two left, one is the littermate of the one put to sleep yesterday. Just been a rough month :(

Oh my gosh!  I am SO sorry.  You must be so heartbroken.  I cannot imagine losing two in just one month
.  I lost one to kidney failure earlier this year, and the only thing that kept me going was my other three.  Thankfully you also have your other two furkids who need you and hopefully will provide some solace in these difficult times.

So sorry about your cat, though from what you say I think you did the right thing.  Doesn't make it easy to do though.

I'm so sorry for your losses, the one today and your most recent (tough 23 years, what a lovely long life!)

You aren't projecting, it is quite common, and normal, for a cat to grieve when she loses a companion. I know you will give her (well, both) lots of extra attention as she copes with this loss. I lost two within a week of one another once, and I was in shock for days. There's nothing makes it any easier.

I'm so sorry.

For anyone reading this post, this fluid is most likely from too much IV fluid.  Do not give her IV fluid anymore, only do sub-q.  Many vets overhydrate when the cats bodies cannot handle this.

I am so very sorry for your loss.  Rest in peace, sweet kitty.
