We had Mom's service this afternoon. Everything went well. The day was warm and sunny and it was just a really nice day. So many cousins and people there. One of my cousins is very special to me as, since I spent my summers and my school vacations with my Grandma, he and I got very close. I was OK til he came over to me and gave me a big hug.....and then I completely broke down. He stayed with me, so I had Rick on one side and my cousin on the other.

After the service, the kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids went to the restaurant for dinner. We really had a lovely time and the great-grandkids (my grandson and grandaughter) made us all laugh at their antics. Our son's family is visiting with Rick's parents right now and will soon come to our house.....the kids and I are going to bake those cookies (I bought parchment paper this afternoon). I'll roll out the dough and cut the cookies and let the kids have fun decorating. I was going to freeze them tonight and then decorate them on Wednesday night, but since the kids are here, they can have the fun. And then they can take some cookies home.

One thing we all talked about after the service...Why do cousins lose track? I see them from time to time, but it's usually while out shopping somewhere or when we're at a restaurant. Rick and I talked and we decided that we're going to have a huge family picnic next year (we didn't do much of anything this year and we really missed it) and invite all the cousins from my family. And see if we can get some of them anyway to show up. It would be nice to get together at something other than a funeral. It's a nice idea and, hopefully, we can do something next summer.

Anyway, it was a nice service and I think Mom would have been pleased.

Thank you all for being here for me. You have no idea how much your support and prayers have helped.

Pam, I was just thinking about you when I found your post. I remembered that the service was scheduled for today.

Yes isn't it sad how we lose touch with people over the years. I've been trying to keep in touch with a couple of cousins, but we are all scattered in so many different locations that it is sometimes difficult.

I'm glad you had a service and was able to remember all the good things about your mom. And you're so right about people getting together at funerals (or weddings). We should all try to be closer --- whether it be family or extended family. And I'm starting to think of a lot of people on TCS as extended family --- you especially.

Talk to you soon.

Hi Pam, glad to hear all went well today and the weather was nice too.  It is true in most families that we lose touch, don't know how it happens, it just does.

Again, so sorry for your loss, stay well and love to the kits.

Pam, I've been thinking about you. I'm so glad that you have supportive family members to help you through this awful time. Stay in touch with those cousins, too--my family has not even spoken to in 7 years--not even when my Mom died last year (they may have excluded me from the family ceremony to honor her last year--have no idea if it happened or not).  I'm happy that they were able to attend the funeral with you, and stay with you afterwards.  Family is the most inmportant thing in the world.

I'm glad it went well and that your mother would have been pleased. :hugs:

You are so right about cousins. I usually only see mine at wakes and funerals.
