Hello everyone!
I am worried about my kitten (7 mos) because she has been having a bout of diarrhea lately. It looks like butterscotch pudding and smells AWFUL (mostly I think because she doesn't ever bury it, which I don't mind because I just scoop it right away). She had diarrhea at two months that was much worse, I took her to the vet right away with a stool sample. No worms, but the vet prescribed metronidazole which solved the problem.
I'm hesitant to take her to the vet again because I am quite sure the cause is her diet. She was happily eating Wellness Core kitten dry food and Core kitten wet food with no indigestion. She lost interest in the wet food (she is a very picky eater) because my older cat's dish looked much more appetizing so I switched just the wet food to Halo Spot's Stew because it is 'suitable for all life stages' according to their website. I have a 2 y/o cat, too, so it is super convenient to be able to split one 3 oz. can in the morning for breakfast and one for dinner. My picky kitten doesn't have to eat reheated food and she actually eats off her own plate if she knows that her food is the same as the other cats.
The problem is the diarrhea started when I switched the food and she seems to be losing interest in this brand, too. Is it possible that I switched the brand too quickly, or she has a food allergy? Should I just take her to the vet again to check for worms/get an antibiotic? She loves the Wellness wet food and so does my other cat but as it is not formulated for kittens I am scared she son't get the nutrition she needs eating this and also don't want to switch her food again and cause even more stomach upset. She has been drinking plenty of water and is still her bouncy, active self. Any suggestions would be much appreciated, I feel so sorry for her poor little tummy
Thanks in advance!
