Good morning

Last night I was at my friend's place helping him set up his new laptop.  It was running Windows 8.  It is awful.  I'm an A+ certified technician and it took me 10 minutes just to figure out how to shut it off.  It looks like it was designed for tablets and doesn't work with laptops or desktops at all.

What is your favorite and least favorite Windows operating system?  Or if you're a Mac user, your favorite and least favorite Mac OSX.

My favorite Windows system is XP and least favorite is by far Windows 8.

I learned from the IT guys at work how to do some stuff in XP at one job and it was always pretty easy.  I have Windows 7 now and I can't complain..but I also have no need to bother with as much networking things and what not at home as I did at that job.

I'm a Mac fan and my only encounter with Windows was when I worked for the Smithsonian ~12 years ago - so it's been a while. I had a Mac in my office but occasionally had to access information from another console, I believe it was a Dell. Windows was so clumsy and difficult! So far I have liked all the Mac OS X versions, they just seem to make things better and easier. I'm running Snow Leopard on both my personal and work MacBooks and I've got no complaints.

I can't say which is my favorite but so far I have had very few problems with Windows 7.  I was forced into it when my desktop decided to crash and burn two years ago.  The only software that I cannot get to work is my address book/ calendar that I have been keeping since 1993.  It was offered as a free bonus with Windows when it first came out.

Because I really wanted my addresses and dates I bought a used lap top on e-bay that ran Windows XP.

Yesterday after almost a year of use that decided to crash and burn also.  Since I had gotten used to having the lap top I decided to buy a new one.  Actually I had been think about this for awhile and decided this was a good reason to spend the money.

I had to go to two stores to find any computer that still had Windows 7.  The kid in the first store told me to go to the second store because he had heard they still had a few.  The store that I bought my new lap top from had only four left that ran Windows 7 and a few desk tops.

This store was very busy for a Friday afternoon and the sales person told me that I was not only one looking for Windows 7.  Hopefully Windows 8 will be as successful as Windows Vista and be replaced soon.

My career was in IT and I've used them all.  And I mean from 3.1 all the way to Windows 8.  When I was in school we were just learning DOS and shell commands LOL!  I've used ALL of them.  I was a Domain Administrator for years and our end users were on a variety of platforms.  My favorite server OS was NT 4.0.  On my laptops I'm currently running Windows 7 on one, Vista on another and just bought a new one with 8 that I have not tinkered with yet.  I also have a Linux box at home.  My favorite?... Hard to say really.  They all have advantages and disadvantages.  XP was good but I think Vista was better.  8 seems way too cluttered for my tastes.  I'd have to say right now Vista is my favorite but by tomorrow that opinion might very well change

Win XP. I loved that OS. Rick has it on his computer and I'll use his computer over mine any day. I know it had its issues and problems, but you know what? I never had any trouble with XP. Never. It never froze up on me....I never got the blue screen. It did what I wanted it to do and I never had any issues trying to delete cookies and temp files.

I remember 3.11. I remember Win95, too. Seems I always got the blue screen on Win95.

I have Vista...when I first got this computer, I wanted to reformat it and try taking it to XP, but after talking to some computer weenies, it wouldn't have worked out very well. I hate Vista. I really hate Vista. I am so tired of seeing "xxxxxxx is not accessible. Access is denied." Why make things so freakin' complicated?
 Yep, I really hate Vista.

I remember the old DOS! I used to have post-its all over my computer because I couldn't remember things. I think we've had every Windows system except 8. XP wasn't one of my favorites, because it used to crash a lot, especially after updates. Right now I'd say it's a toss-up between Vista (my laptop) and Windows 7 (my husband's).

I really like XP.  It is the newest OS that I have used.  All time favorite would be Win 98.  I could use it to boot into DOS and run all my games made in 93-96.  My least favorites were Fortran and Cobol.  If you remember them, you are a real nerd, like me.

EDIT-   My brother has a copy of DOS 1.0 on a 5 1/2 inch floppy disk.

Still on XP.  When I bought this computer 4 years ago it had Vista.  I took it off as it was just awful, and went back to XP.  So no idea about 7 or 8.
