I am a Newbie :3 And I go by Nikole, so nice to meet you all!

I have always had cats since I was a little girl. Until the past year and a half. ::sigh:: It's been a hard year and a half I won't lie.

BUT there is a possibly of getting this beautiful rescue. I am so excited ^^

Look her up on indiegogo dot com if you have a minute, under "Rescue Ruby" in the search. She is a hit and run victim.

I already posted about her under Cats S.O.S.

I have a soft spot for Rescues, but I have also been the proud owner of three different animals with amputated or crippled limbs.

She is under foster care right now, because of all the surgery and health issues. ::sigh:: WANT this kitten in my life. I need kitten love.

::breaks out in fever sweats::

Hi and welcome !  Just curious, so please don't think ill of my question, Yes, she has a beautiful face
and of course you are excited, when you have been waiting so long to get a new cat in your life.

BUT have you thought it over seriously  (with your rational brain, not your soft heart) - if you really, really want a cat that has been in an accident ?

She may end up with some permanent disability or problems with internal organs or whatever   ("surgery and health issues"). I realize that all sorts of things can befall our pets as time goes by, but walking into a potential misery and heavy vet expense with your eyes wide shut ?

Why not get a sound, well-fed and healthy kitten (or two) without pre-existing illnesses or injuries on their book?

well, it turns out, another family is getting this kitten, so really, it isn't even an issue, but I am still doing the fund raiser for her leg surgery.

I have very seriously thought about it. My eyes are not wide shut. I have actually had several animals in the past, that have been in accidents having missing or crippled limbs. So this wouldn't be the first. The dog I found when I was 10 years old that had a crippled front leg from being hit by a car, he wasn't injured when I found him it was an old injury, he had been dumped and left for dead and survived for a while. He was ridiculously sweet. I kept that dog for, 14 years. He saved my life by jumping on two rottweiler dogs that were about to attack me. He had to be put down when he was about 16 because his arthritis had become so bad he wouldn't even move to go to the bath room anymore. He was the most amazing dog I ever had. Period.

I had a cat that went through a hay bailer machine, she lost a tail and her back leg, I helped sow the wound shut myself. She had kittens after that.

I had a cat until about a year and a half a go that was a rescue, he previous owner supposedly "stepped" on him and broke his leg in 12 places, the surgery was so expensive the owner just left the cat at the vet doing nothing to fix it's injuries. He's front leg was amputated. I had him until he passed away from an internal issue that could not be fixed. He was the most caring cat I had ever known.

I completely understand the issues with taking a kitten like this. I understand that her life may be cut much much shorter do to health issues later in life, if she can fully make it through the ones now. The fact that an animal may have an permanent injury for life, does not stop me from loving it with my fully with my whole heart, and an animal with an injury appreciates everything much much much more. Or at least in my experience they do.

My grandfather was an amputee, his left leg, and he was bad Arse. I have never seen a man 60 years old move faster or quieter than he did when hunting. If never stopped him, slowed him down, or made him bitter. He died young too. Maybe that's where this stems from.

There is just something about an animal that survives and beats the odds and still comes out with love in their heart for others, animals people what have you.

It's a powerful thing to see. And it's a powerful love to experience with an animal. Or so my experience has been. I wouldn't change it for a second. :3
