Are there ANY natural flea prevention/solutions out there? What did we do before Advantage or Frontline?

I brought a feral kitten into my home two months ago, at 9 weeks old.  On the advice of my vet, she was treated with Advantage...and got REALLY sick. Fleas all gone - and almost her too. I cleaned my home thoroughly (for weeks afterwards), vacuuming daily, emptying (and washing) the canister outside, changing and washing (in hot, soapy water) her bedding and I checked her daily too. I did NOT want either one of us to go through THAT again.

I found nothing for almost two months.

She doesn't go outside, so I was horrified to see a flea run across her face on Saturday night. I checked her body, and saw more than one - but not an "infestation" - yet.

I don't see any fleas "jumping" - either on her or in my home. I'm back to cleaning like a maniac, and combing her constantly - getting fleas every time an dropping them in soapy vinegar water...

I DO NOT want to put her through a reaction to those chemicals ever again. Is there anything else I can use? She is not de-clawed and hates getting wet, so bathing her is the worst experience ever - I tried it and  got scratched from fingertip to elbow.

I'm also wondering where the H*** the fleas came from? She's an indoor cat???.

I feed a feral cat in my backyard. I had her fixed, she lives under my deck and I feed her daily, She's the mother of my kitten.  I crouch down when putting out food for Mama, calling (meowing) to her, trying to get her to be less feral and more trusting of me (if possible?). I'm thinking I picked up the fleas on my legs/feet/shoes and brought them into the house myself. Mama is fed in the same place twice a day.

Does anyone have a solution?

Yes, very possibly. The standard solution is to change clothes at the entrance to your house. Like you would do to keep a quarantine.

Natural prevention?  You can try with Diatomeus earth  (DE). Make it human / food grade.

Killing the parasites, harmless to animals.  Can be used both on the outside, and inside.

Some forumties uses it.

Good luck!

Thank you, StefanZ...you came through for me again....

I read up on DE and on Borax too...DE seems to be a lots less toxic than Borax, but I have no idea where I will find human/food grade in my hometown. I already searched online and came up with nothing. I will visit a few possible stores and ask for it.....

Thank you.
