Kush got spayed today

I was told she could go back to eating and drinking normally but limited activity for 7-10 days. So when I took her out of her carrier I put her in our pit bulls dog crate with her litter box, a blanket, and her food and water bowls. She didn't potty at all in her carrier and I could tell she was holding it because she went straight to her litter box and took the longest pee. She's been laying down but when I check on her she paws at my fingers through the bars.

I feel horrible locking her up but her and my pit bull get insanely rambunctious together. When I went to check on her I tried to gently hold her and rub her head and she swiped my face, something she has never done before. She didn't use her claws but it was still very surprising for her, i know she is probably uncomfortable but I was very careful. And as I put her down she tried to bolt out and I had to run after her before she ran out of the room.

So now that I got my annoying long post out of the way here are my couple questions

1) how long do you think I will probably have to keep her in the cage? There's no actual room to shut her in except my daughters and then I cant hear here if she's crying so that's a no go.

2) did anyone's cats behaviors change once they were spayed? She's always been pretty friendly and playful. Never a scratcher more of a mouther/biter (playing but so annoying always on the back of the heel)

3) did you guys lower your kitteh's food intake once they were spayed so they didn't get the jelly belly?

Anything else you want to add feel free. Thanks!!!

She will probably be fine tomorrow.  They're pretty good at self-limiting behavior after the spay.  She probably swiped at you because she's still got some of the anesthesia in her system.

I'm just soooo nervous that she will try to play with my pit. The only way of explaining the way they play is like watching two lions fight over a carcass on animal planet and my pit bull always loses. That's how rough it is. In reality it's all fun for THEM (for the people or items that get in their way it usually ends in accidental bloody scratches from being used as a diving board or broken/torn bits of whatever -smh-) and my cat is also a Kung fu ninja master. The whole Jackie chan kick move...people are gonna think I'm crazy but I swear to god she does it off my couch to the dog. She's WEIRD!!! She does these random cartwheel type moves and...I'm going to have to video tape all this because I probably sound like an idiot haha.

But yeah....like I said the moment I opened the dog crate she tried booking it for the downstairs where the dog was. Her food water and litter box were all upstairs. It's making me really nervous. When I came up for bed (I'm using my phone right now to type this) and brought the dog up with me the cat went NUTS. She started meowing and hanging off the sides off the crate almost upside down. =[ I'd let her out but I move so much Im afraid I'd kick her or something...Orr her and the dog would start at it. Ugh. This post is forever long, blah.

Awwww, yes I understand your concern. I would keep her away from your doggy for about two and a half days at the most. My kitties were playing crazy the day after their spays :lol3:, no matter how much I tried to calm them down!

I had to let her out she was yowling and trying to get out all night and I live in a complex. My pup seems to understand for the most part that kush is on the down and out. And kush keeps wondering off and hiding. Plus when I leave for school I will crate the dog because she tears apart my house.

Kush's incision seems ok. There's no drainage but I don't see any stitches...I caught her licking it so I'm hoping she didn't pull them out =X or is the way the sew it made so the stitches are inside? It just looks like a little pinkish/redish (but not hot red or bloody red) ball. My neighbor picked her up as I don't drive and have strep throat so haven't left the house =[

The incision sounds fine. She probably either has internal dissolving stitches or maybe they used some kind of glue. It should say on your instruction sheet what kind of stitches were used. Food quantity depends on activity level and age. Cats don't get fat because they were spayed, they get fat when they are over fed, under exercised, and/or fed poor quality food. :)

The cat flap down below is part of a cat's physique, even slender cats have it. If she is a kitten she is still growing and needs a lot of food. After about a year or so old you can re-evaluate how much she needs. Feeding on a schedule will help you keep track of what she gets and needs, and feeding canned and making sure she gets plenty of exercise by interactive play with you will keep her healthy and fit.

PS my Queen Eva banks off of the furniture in play too. She doesn't have a dog to play with, just other cats (and me of course), but she has similar moves. I'd love to see pics and videos of your cat and dog playing together, once she is recovered from her surgery of course. :)

=] yeah she's about 20 weeks. I made her birthday June 28th as she was a feral litter baby and I've had her since (vet guess) 2 weeks. I was reading that sometimes their activity levels drop after spaying and so their food should should be altered. But she's just a baby so I doubt it will really effect her.

I will definitely upload some of her and Prada! It's hilarious because she's so small but she beats her up haha.

It is likely the vet used glue to stich her up so she doesn't have to return but keep an eye on her licking.  If she licks the incision too much, she can cause it to become infected or potentially open up.
